Vastly over-rated shite. I would sooner be forced to listen to Oasis for 48 hours solid than have to listen to one track from the Beatles.

I'm no Beatles fan but I would put oasis lower down the scale.

The Beatles a class act but far too over rated for me, the best album by the Beatles IMO was the White Album.

50% great 50% not so great. The McCartney stuff with it's piano's and horns irritated me. However arguably there's four of the best tracks they ever did on there.

I don't think I'm alone in thinking the Beatles are really over-rated.

The biggest thing I can point to which backs this up is 'I am the walrus'.

Some bands record songs where it seems like they're taking the piss lyrically, but because they're so revered they get away with it and people even take it seriously. These joke songs get played over and again, even covered by other bands, and no-one seems to see the original 'joke'.

Would anyone care to interpret the lyrics of 'I am the walrus' for me, cos it sounds like a load of drug-addled nonsense to me. Some drug-addled stuff is good, but most of it is cack.

See also 'I want to ride my bicycle' by Queen. Unless it's a euphemism for some kind of activity, it's an annoying nursery rhyme.

White Album has to be the best and Happiness Is A Warm Gun is the best of the best - superb version by The Breeders for anyone into The Pixies!

Everybody's got something to hide except me and my monkey!

Always liked the song title, if not the song itself.

If you're throwing any Beatles away elvis throw it my way - only No.9 is disposable everything else top notch for me. All Beatles albums have a bummer - Yellow Sub for me on Revolver.

Well, I had to agree with Mr Kev sometime I suppose.
I think 'For No-one' is probably one of the best love songs ever

Funny how a list of songs doesn't always remind you of the songs themselves.

I've just listened to 'For no one', and had obviously forgotten how good a song it is.

One of THE greatest albums ever IMO.Just as the band started to experiment with new ideas of recording, and using different instruments, which would expand even further with Sgt Peppers.

1966 this was put together, what a good year.

Without being patronising I reckon it makes a massive difference if you were there when this stuff was coming out. I was only a bin lid (honest!!) but I had two older sisters and an older brother and a Beatles album coming out, (which they did about every six months) was seismic. Also the backdrop of what was around at the time wasn't as colourful as it later became and so they were head and shoulders above everyone else apart from the Stones, The Hollies, The Beach Boys and the Phil Spector mob. Even Motown hadn't started.

I Am The Walrus is just stream of conciousness bollocks, means whatever you want it to mean. Ever tried sitting on a cornflake??

Exactly.

It seems to happen a lot when a band/writer becomes famous, th epressure is on to produce more stuff more quickly so songs get included that would be probably have been discarded if they'd been subject to the old 'put it in a drawer for 6 months and then see' rule.
But my favourite Beatles songs 'at the time' are still among my favourite songs, and always will be

Think that is probably libel, calling Mr MJ a rarf in print. Particularly as he drinks in the No Rarfs Arms under the supervision of it's rarf aware landlord.
