My clever bugger nephews cover of 'You Can Call Me Al.'

If you're going to pick a cover, pick one that's a pig to have a go at.

OK if you like lead singers who talk rather than sing the lyrics!!

Great thread and great to see real music's alive and well in the North East.

Anybody listening to Von Sudenfed - highly recommended for anyone keen on The Fall (Mouse On Mars + M.E.Smith). Hopefully this link will play for anyone with an interest.

I'm getting it tomorrow. A work colleague has got a promo copy to give me for nowt. He was given it just after he bought it :sweeeet:
He describes it as funny confised
Will be difficult to find the time to play it properly as I'm so busy with Psychobilly, Cocteau Twins (someone just gave me nine albums!) and 60s garage rock kindly done by Mr Crimes

Treat myself to the limited edition Lullabies For Violaine on release BWH (4CDs) - excuse to get some Cocteau's on CD as all my stuff is on vinyl! Yer a lucky man! Treasure my favourite Cocteau's album. The Nuggets compilation by Lenny kaye is a great way to sample garage rock I reckon.

Neighbours seem very friendly in Hartlepool - giving their music away!

I am a fan of music - all shapes and sizes. Cash is brilliant - I love his prison albums and the 'American' albums are superb. As a Nick Cave fan I think Cash's Mercy Seat is unbelievable. Hurt of course is spectacular but so is most of the stuff on the American albums. violin

We nearly missed Hot Club also....had thought they were on in evening but they actually appeared much earlier. Got quite near the stage and were very impressed, esp with Paul

Agree about the walk....must have put in about 4 miles getting to and from the site...just about had to have oxygen when I got home :uhoh:

We will have to agree to disagree mad john (address withheld). "I Won't Back Down".

You probably don't like the original either!

They're supporting the Who in Southampton in a couple of days. I would have liked to have been there for that one. Not a bad entry on the old CV is it??

Where should I start with them ?
Any recommendations would be welcome.

This should play if you click on a track - 'Being There' would be a good place to start though and I think Yankee Hotel Foxtrot got rave reviews on release?

I think it was the Sky Blue Sky track that set me off Kev .... really stood out and made the rest of the programme sound a bit mediocre

Listening to these two whilst doing a compilation for a mate.
Makes me wonder why I dont smoke the green anymore...
not that you need it to appreciate music but nevertheless

Image

Image

The compilation I'm doing is thus:
Alabama 3 - too sick to pray
Bonnie Prince Billy - At break of day
The Tindersticks - Tiny tears
The Eels - Restraining order blues
The Golden Virgins - Light at her window
The Church - under the milkyway
The Blue Aeroplanes - jacker hangs
Grant Lee Buffalo - Jupiter and teardrop
The Yeah yeah yeahs - turn into
Patti Smith - redondo beach
The beta band - dogs got a bone
grandaddy - he's simple, he's dumb, he's the pilot
the earlies - morning wonder
the flaming lips - do you realise?
the brian jonestown massacre - anenome

obviously I'm trying to cheer him up with the first five songs

I reckon he may have heard of none of these as he lives in hull and its well known that people in hull only ever listen to oasis. So hopefully he'll be staggered by how great the songs are :sweeeet:

Just 'youtube'd Albert King, and came up with 'Born under a bad sign'
I've only ever known this as a Cream song!
How cool is that playing the guitar, while smoking a pipe!!!!
Not much of a 'backing' band though. Including, Booker T Jones, Isaac Hayes and Steve Cropper.

Another one a mate asked me to 'purchase' for him!!!!

But what a beauty it is!!!! :sweeeet:
I'd never even heard of them!!!! confised
Usually when I get a new CD/Album I flick through it but this one I've just let it play from the start to the finish and there's not a track on it that I wanted to skip....which is very rare for me!!!!

You can't pigeon hole the album....It contains a bit of everything!!!! :sweeeet:

Try it out for yourselves if you haven't heard it before!!!!

 :sweeeet:
