I give you Steve Harper, although technically not really ours but still he has sat on the bench for the Geordies that many times his seat there has his own personal arse groove in it

Phil Gilchrist had a canny speel higher up the league with Leicester i think

We need to define success. Is it Championship and above? Just playing in a top flight, playing for their country?

Chip do you want to start another of your fishing threads on how many pools players have STAYED with pools and won loads of things and played at the highest level

Although perhaps not achieving the highest honours I'd say that Kenny Lowe, Mark Venus, David Linighan and Phil Gilchrist all did quite well for themselves. Les Green & Bill Green did well but that was a long time ago.
As Camera Obscura say - Under Achievers Please Try Harder.

And they would know too, being die-hard Poolies from the old school. Eighties Fan and I Don't Do Crowds perfectly encapsulate what it meant to be a Poolie in the bad old days of Bob Moncur and Mick Docherty confised

I remember those days well - and it still hurts - there were time under both managers when I thought we would never ever win again. When you reflect & then look upon the club in recent years you can see the massive improvement (and the huge cash injection).

Aye, and I remember those as well, having supported 'Pool for over 40 years.

Talbot - I remember Malcom Poskett playing for Brighton - think it was the old 2nd Division and I'd call that a success of some kind

go back 40 years to 1967.

the 10 most successful players ever to have played for pools ( i will start you off with alan and ray kennedy )

and the 10 players who played at least one season for us who went on to have the greatest success after leaving ( and we will kick of with john mcgovern, who won just about everything bar the f a cup and andy linighan who did win the f.a cup and played for quite a while in the best team in the country apart from pools )

you can quantify success however you like.

Moving from Pools to Coventry, does that quantify being sucsessful?

My personal rating of a player, is what they did for Pools, not what they did after. That always seemed so irrelevant to me, after they'd gone. I don't wish to sound churlish, but after they'd gone they were of no use to Pools and therefore no use to me.
I'LL ALWAYS HAVE MORE TIME FOR THE LADS WHO STAYED AND PLAYED ... the ones who never did make it to the top, but who gave the club everything they had, they're the ones I admire,..what about a list of those?

My immediate thought was Alan Goad. One of my favourite Poolies ever.

Ian McGuckin went to Fulham he didn't play a first team game for them as far as I can remember due to injury - maybe MJ can confirm or otherwise.
