Just finished watching this....

AMAZING....10/10!!!!

Written and directed by Michael Rossato Bennett, Alive Inside follows Dan Cohen on his quest to improve the lives of nursing home patients, especially those suffering from Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. Presently, patients are "warehoused" and fed medications to keep them sedated and manageable, still alive physically, but asleep inside, and no longer able to enjoy life. Cohen, a social worker with a technical savvy for how mobile devices can actually benefit mankind, is the founder of Music and Memory, two words that define this film.

Cohen's approach is based on findings of neurological scientists that we are hard-wired at birth to feel the beat (literally our heart beats) and the area of the brain that responds to, and recalls music, is one of the last areas of the brain to succumb to Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.

Cohen visits with mainly Alzheimer's patients, but also patients suffering from other illnesses. He identifies the music most popular in their youth; personalizes this music into an iPod playlist tailored to each patient's interests; then puts earphones on these patients, starts their iPods, and watches what happens.

What happens is remarkable. People who are unresponsive suddenly become ALIVE INSIDE as the music awakens memories in their lives. They are happy again: smiling, talking, moving to the beat, and speaking in coherent sentences. They are remembering and enjoying life once again.

Got the MP3 Player sorted too late for my Mam!!!! sadx

But I hope other people in a similar position regarding Alzheimer's/Dementia take heed of that Documentary!!!!

Thanks for pointing this out Mutley, that clip is amazing and I will definitely watch when I can get hold of a copy. Sorry to hear about your Mam, my Nan died years ago but had suffered with Alzeimers disease for years, it's a horrible disease to witness and experience

That is only 1 clip from the Documentary....you need to see the full ish' to really appreciate it!!!!

We collected £200 from my Mam's Funeral and took it through to the Alzheimers Society on Christmas Eve....I'll be doing a lot more for them cos it's such a horrible horrible condition....especially for people to witness....Heartbreaking!!!! sadx

Know how you feel mutters it's just over a year since my dad died following a long spell suffering from dementia

Its a heartbreaker mutley me grandmas 95 and fit as a fiddle but hasent got a clue who her family is for the last ten years.

Football is just a game that shud always come after family.

WOW!!! The only other time I was blown away like this was "Run from the cure" that is another amazing watch.

I have been cooking lunch today for the aged at a care home, half a dozen have dementia and quite upsetting as they seem lovely but haven`t a clue what is going on.

Dorothy panics when she has had lunch and doesn`t know where she is, tries to pay 3 times and asks if she has had her dinner when she just ate it sadx
