The question is, as always, is the problem due to the manager, or is it due to the restrictions placed on the manager?

If the squad is underperforming - there are players we know that can do better but aren't - that's usually the manager. Ditto if it's all down to tactics, or not playing the best side. Looking at the side we put out today - what players currently available (ie at the club and fit) would have improved the team? Err....

If there is money available but the manager - whether because he can't get players to come or just that he feels the squad is good enough - doesn't use it, then it's the manager.

If there is no money available, or not at a time to make a difference (ie before the window shut), then it's the ownership more than the manager.

General opinion is that Cooper has not been given the financial backing to sign players rather than lacking the ability to do so. The squad wasn't exactly strong last season - we relied more than a bit on loan players to pull us through - and this year's loanees aren't having quite the same impact, plus we've sold or lost plenty of experience and talent without replacing it (Not just Baldwin and James, the likes of Monkhouse and Sweeney too). The last time we looked like this IMO is the end of the Gibson era - relying on loanees, youngsters who may or may not make the grade, and a smattering of more experienced pros. In other words, as bad as we've been in 20 years. Cooper may not be helping matters - but this cannot be all down to him.

As predicted Hodcroft avoids all the flack and any protests and the outward pouring of anger falls on the manager again.

Cooper won't be sacked you are wasting your breath, he doesn't rock the boat. The only hope is him having some personal pride and walking away. Even then it will be Russ Greens best mate Collins and his son assistant. Cooper is a terrible manager but the bigger picture is as a club we are totally fucked wherever happens next. This team is dreadful, piss weak. Matthew Bates the 'captain' set the tone in the first fifteen minutes being garbage. If he is our skipper we might as well give in now, oh no they did at 2-0 at looked like they wanted the game to finish 6-0. A fucking disgrace and I 'do tell any one of those players face to face that they aren't fit to wear blue and white.

You're spot on Albatross. Cooper is inept and needs to go. But on the other hand this club needs significant investment on the playing and coaching side. I'm skeptical about the kind of manager we could bring in that could turn this lot around. Bar Duckworth and probably Flinders, this side is terrible.

Agree with Ripper. I'm sure that bunch on the pitch are capable if managed correctly of giving us more than they currently are. Another problem is supporters turning their back on their club when things get tough.

It is clear that the club needs a long-term solution and the problems run a lot deeper than the manager.

But...in the short term we need someone else in to make the current crop of players a lot more effective than they are. Look at Carlisle today - no quality, awful team to watch but Keith Curle has got them showing aggression, putting bodies on their line and going to away games to attack.

Don't like saying it, but the way things are we need someone like that who at least will help get some points on the board.

Sadly, I have to concur. When the manager is an ex-international defender and his assistant is a goalkeeping coach, there's something deeply wrong when you ship 3 to nowt at home against the bottom team.

Carlisle brought Curle in and his recent record reads played 2, won 2. We need fresh eyes. I don't like to see anyone lose their job, it's devastating, but in the bigger picture it has to happen.

Plenty of decent options out there.

Just going off comments a couple of managers have made both on the record and off it with them having to submit written reports to the manager, not getting meetings etc.
