Every raghead would have been out with his shovel each night digging holes to put IED's in (roadside bombs) the Picadilly cowboys would have suffered massive casualties because the insurgents would have been trying to kill the lad.

I'm with Mr I on this one.I talk to a lot of forces lads in my job,many who have been or are going to Iraq,and the ones I've talked to pretty much believe that the chance to kill a british royal would have the bad boys swarming like piranha in a tarzan fillum.
remember that although a lot of british lads have died the casualty toll on iraqi people has been massive in comparison because they're all busy killing each other.dropping Harry in there would suddenly unite every different faction and it would take things to a new level.

The British forces would face a massive increase in attacks from all the AQ/Taliban/Iranians with access to anything more than a pea shooter. The roads would be littered with IED's and light tanks would be a major target. The bombs are getting through challenger tanks now, imagine what they would do to a Scorpion or Scimitar LRV. Of course the attacks will continue but they would increase hugely - get the idea? more attacks = more casualties. He does know the risks. It's not his decision. In the interests of the security of all the others, the Joe Bloggs's we talk about, it's better if he doesn't go. They'll kill 300 in his division if they can be sure he is one of them. They'll go for the scatter gun effect. Killing JB gives them kudos, killing HRH gives them sainthood and they all want to be a saint. For the moment they're just shooting at a uniform, if he goes they're gunning for a face and they'll go through the lot until they get to him.

My guess would be that his oppo's don't want him there and surely their opinion counts.

Yes he did and it really boils my piss when people claim that he was kept away from any danger down south. Half the time - and I know this for a fact - he was using his helicopter as a decoy for Exocet missiles. Incoming missile, chopper put between it and the ship until the missile locks onto it. At that point the chopper goes upwards quickly thus confusing the missile which ends up going harmlessly into the oggin.

Not a job I'd fancy to be honest. The lad dun good.
