will be found out at this level as he has been in the past. too old and too slow. will struggle to get his game and will be back playing in league 2 before the end of the season.

discuss.

But his game has fook all to do with speed anyways, so that’s a disingenuous argument

Knows where the net is

Wins impressively large % of headers for his size

Holds the ball up well and brings others into play

Good goalscoring record

And could run through a brick wall

Yeah, think he'll struggle

I'm convinced that Barker adn Foley will make a great partnership. Barker has the strength to hold the ball up and outmuscle defenders while Foley the speed to run onto balls leaving the world in his wake.

Stevey Howard is not quick but he seems to have managed-at a higher level than league 1 by the way :sweeeet:

And he scored a cracking penalty last night in the shoot out.

Thats another matter - why do I feel unconfident about all of our penalty takers - Barker included.

Derby players last night looked confident and none of them looked like missing. :-o

You can't keep an Experienced Goal-Scorer In The Traditional Centre Forward Mould down!

Mark my words, Richie B will be top marksman next season .... [hopefully]

If anything the pace is more measured in League 1. I think he'll do OK with Porter Sweeney and Brown around him, feeding off his hold up play and he'll get his share from set pieces where pace isn't that important.

Next season will tell us all we need to know, if he does the business great, if he doesn't..... over to Danny. But, do we really have to go over scenarios speculating on his possible performances before the lads kicked a ball in the 1st Division, I don't mind generalising, but highlighting a player in this manner, even theoretically, is unfair and pointless.

Well Dean Windass can give Ritchie a good few years start and no one can tell me that he would win any sprints. Barker has a good football brain and that will more than compensate for any lack of speed.

Richie Barker has never been any quicker than he is now, yet he's featured in a Rotherham team promoted automatically from league one, and that went on to hold its own in the championship.

To say he'll be 'found out' is slightly disrespectful as he's done it before, its not as if that level is new to him. He'll be an asset, he'll still be able to hold the ball up, he'll still work his arse off, and he'll still get on the end of crosses.

Big season for Barker next year, he scored something like 9 penalties out of his 23/4 last season which is still a reasonable tally considering he was at Mansfield for the first half of the season but I feel we may need more than 15 outfield goals from our main striker if we want to make a real impact on the division

I think we should be looking for a bit more of a contribution from midfield.

Monky and Browny have pitched in with more than their fair share this season and infront of goal I would always back these two. It's in the middle where they have dried up, Liddle hasn't scored in donkeys after an early hatful, Willie Boland will never pass a ball forward enough to threaten a goal and Sweeney's have dried up but I think would return if given a continued run in the squad

I think Barker will do a job but if there is a better player available whether the player is similar to Barker or not then the better player must be signed.

Which is good!

To be honest, I can't remember Barker having a good game against us and his debut at Shrews was dire, however, he has more than won me around since.

I think he will do a good job for us next year and I'm sure he'll know, as they all will, that he must perform to a high standard on a regular basis. I have faith in him.

I do think, though, that Joel Porter will set the league alight. He has something to prove! He has missed virtually the last 2 years of his career and will be hungry to make up for lost time. If he can stay injury free and get a full pre season under his belt, I think Joel will be like a new signing and a perfect compliment to Barker.

He scored 9 goals in 18 which is fairly decent to be fair. I don't think you could ever accuse him of not giving enough, he runs into the channels all day takes the kicks and elbows almost for fun.

He is the type of player every club need, different to any other forward we have.

i have the impression wilson will be quite a ruthless boss. i also get the distinct impression he was more than a little peeved at not winning the league and that he hasnt forgiven or forgotten the rochdale debacle.

he has said publicly that he will give the team that got us promoted a chance to shine in division one, but i got the feeling at the player of the year do that ior are expecting us to be looking at the championship within a couple of seasons and that they will be prepared to back wilson financially.

if thats the case i would expect him to be bringing in players for first team duty over the summer.

distinct impression
etc etc

either he is or he isnt
if you've been told summit by clarky then spill beans mate
he aint at the club anymore

danny graham has done well at carlisle and scored goals, he scored goals at huddersfield if my memory serves me right so he can do it for us.

so timmy, would you buy graham and sell barker ?

no i would not sell richie barker, he has another year or possibly two(i think) on his contract and hes done more than enough to warrant a place in the 1st team next year.

i have never seen graham play but hes young, scores goals and thats what we need. i cant judge graham as being the same type of player as barker as ive never seen the smoggies play (except preseason friendlies at vic park) and not bothered if i ever do unless its against us
