Am I reading that wrong?

Is Collins the new assistant manager?

Underwhelming news.

Dont have an issue with it, just underwhelmed.

I wasn't sure there is a lot of slashes (/) in it and I'm a bit confused as to whether he is just coach n reserve team coach or first team assistant too.

Just seems like the cheap option YET AGAIN from pools. It could all work out well and i have no problems with Sam but all this cost cutting and lack of ambition seems to signal we are preparing for yet another battle to avoid the Blue Square Prem next season. Everything pools do these days just leaves you totally underwhelmed as Dibble says!

SAM Collins has signed a new contact to remain at Hartlepool United - and will also now have additional coaching responsibility.

The centre-half, soon to turn 37, is taking up the role of of assistant first / reserve team coach for the 2014/15 campaign.

Last season he took charge of a number of reserve team games and gained coaching experience at the club while taking his coaching badges.

Collins started this season as back up to Christian Burgess and Jack Baldwin, but was a regular in the side for the second half of the campaign after Baldwin signed for Peterborough.

Boss Colin Cooper is still to appoint at assistant manager and is hopeful of concluding a deal for his right hand man shortly.

Maybe Ken is pushing the boat out and we are going to have a manager, a coach, and an assistant coach.

Cast of thousands.

Assistant to the first and reserve team coaches?

Cooper's title is first team coach isn't it?

I think so, so assistant to the first team coach is surely assistant manager then ?

Oh ffs pools just announce something that isn't cryptic!

Maybe those that buy Poolsplayer get a clearer announcement.

Or maybe Mr Simpson is just dyslexic?

If you follow the co-ordinates 23:45:67 in the middle of the atlantic ocean at 23:57 this evening, a message has been displayed telling you what Collins new job title is.

Misterb, turner no longer works for pools.

Assistant First / Reserve Team Coach is nothing I've ever heard of before, how many clubs have Assistant First / Reserve Team Coaches?

I'm not knocking them, im happy to see Collins step up n do coaching with pools, I just don't think it looks clear.

Aye, clear as owt:

Sam Collins has today signed a new contract with the Club, taking up the role of Assistant First / Reserve Team Coach for the 2014/15 campaign.

Though they have now added another sentence saying Cooper WANTS to further strengthen the coaching staff. Whatever that means.

So is Collins Assistant to Cooper, or assistant to the assistant? Who isnt here yet.

He is the assistant to the first team and he is also the reserve team coach by the sounds of it.

I find this line hilarious;

"He also played a big part in the shift away from the League Two relegation zone"

Although he did play well I'd say winning one of the last nine games was careering towards it rather than shifting away

I think an assistant manager is still be appointed as that's the only other role to fill, unless John Hewiston's days are number and the new appointment will be heading the youth set up. But my guess is Hewiston will revert back to that and the senior coaching staff will be Cooper, A N Other and Collins.

I've heard the Dutchman Theese Enthatt is favourite - A N Other is in line for the Darlo job

The assistant manager usually coaches the reserves too, so by that logic I'd say he is the assistant manager. Just typically stupid IOR titles confusing matters.

I think there'll be one more coach coming in to directly replace Hignett. Collins will work under that person and CC.

Gentlemen common sense Sam Collin is the number 2 and a fair enough economic and football decision. If we can be tight at the back that may help us next season as we will rely on James with the next best weighing with about 5 goals me reckons. Really harewood is not going to get us double figures!

Bit unfair on Harewood. He came (halfway through the season) not fully fit. A good pre season and with (possibly)being his final Hurrah in pro football, he could be a major player IMHO.

Nope.

Collins is an additional coach, Cooper will be appointing an assistant manager soon.
