Scott Harrison/Connor Oliver

Renamed in memory of John Hawksworth, a stalwart member who passed this day 2nd August 2020. RIP Mr Monkeybutt.

Sadly we must add the name of Kevin Minton, Aka Mr Ripper who passed 30/6/22. Kev was also Mr politically incorrect but a nicer lad you could never meet.

Would anyone be happy if we signed these two on a free if they get released from Sunderland

Harrison looked very good from where I was standing, and Oliver replacing Walton would considerably reduce the feeling of foreboding every time the latter collects a yellow card in a match. I would also like to see Harewood around since even though he may seem to move like an arthritic hippo on the pitch, he scares defenders and his little lay offs in the defensive half started several counter attacks. Despite making Showunmi look like Usain Bolt, he also seemed to magically end up in the right place in the box and could have scored a couple if Poole, Richards and Holden had not wasted their good work and popped the ball across to him. Hadn't seen Walker before but he was in a class of his own - hope him and James see the sense in staying for another season at least after they've seen Baldwin languishing on the bench at Peterborough for most of the time.

Aren't 1883 playing like at this minute in a play off game, according to today's Echo they are.

Let me get this right....

You are on the Bunker during this?

Fucking hell.

They are obviously winning then and we'll have to suffer these dullards for a few days.

We aren't interested.

Onto the actual thread I'm looking forward to seeing Oliver play on Saturday after only seeing about 10 minutes during a poor performance when he put a shot into Morrisons but it sounds like he was excellent on Saturday.

I thought Harrison was awful against Chesterfield and out of his depth but it was a hard game to make his debut in as a team we were dreadful. Against Morecambe he did very well apart from one slip. Fully committed a bit of pace and some good passes. He looks alright. It will be good to see them both with the pressure off on Saturday.

Yes, both have done well so far, if they can do it again Saturday can't see us signing any better. If they do play well Saturday bet they end up somewhere else!!

Erm he has started in their last four games and by all accounts everyone is raving about him down here so I think that point isnt a good one.

I stand corrected then. .....if Peterborough win the playoffs, he obviously did the right thing. Seemed a daft decision at the time when if he'd stuck around for the season, it seems to me he'd get there anyway without the trauma of League 1 playoffs.

Oliver had a good game at Plymouth last week but was poor today. Harrison has played well in every game apart from the game with Chesterfield, wouldnt mind if they both signed.

Harrison looks like a good, solid player to me, not just a bloke who's merely had a good game, but looks one who has a depth of talent to draw on.
Connor Oliver, also, but he didn't quite have the same chance to display his game. Looks very promising, though.

I think Harrison will be a cracking player with a couple of years experience. Chips right though, not a patch on Burgess.

just illustrates that you can't read the game at all. harrison was excellent today and would be a great addition to the squad. he's got that little bit extra that stands out to anyone with a fucking clue.

Harrison wouldn't be a bad signing, no way we will have Burgess and if we did the pairing would work.

Not sure about Oliver barely noticed him today.

I agree, wasn't sure how I was going to survive when I looked at the clock and saw there was another 30 minutes to sit through.

But about Harrison, it's not the things he did wrong, it's the things he did right, and the classy way he did them. He's going to be a good 'un. Bet you any money.

Not at this level. He still looks like a kid playing against men,a bit like Darren Craddock when he tried playing there, wheras Burgess looked more able to handle the physical side of things.

Given a choice between the two it would be an absolute no brainer for me.

Agreed.

I might be wrong but I think Burgess has a couple of years on Harrison. If we don't get Burgess there's a lot worse than Harrison mind.

The topic of this thread shows a complete lack of imagination . When names of new signings come up at this time of year some people come up with people we've had on loan. Has no one got the imaginayion to look beyond the recent tradition of hanging on to the old guard or signing up loanees we had for a few weeks.
They're far from the finished product and we lack wise heads and leaders on the pitch.

Looking at the teams promoted, they have a wealth of experience in their teams.

We wont be competing at the top of the table with kids alone. We will need a mixture of kids, younger players on the up, and experienced pro's.

I am still chuckling at the irony, of Ritchie Humphreys getting another promotion on his CV, whilst we were delighted he fooked off. Yet two weeks ago we were in serious danger of relegation.

Of course we could do better than a past his sell by date charlatan like Humphreys.

So why didnt we then?

My take, for what its worth.............the equivalent of 6 games............, was that we relied too much on quality loanees.

Obviously Luke Williams being the best, and way too good for this division.

I am not convinced by Holden. But never have been.

Walker was awful saturday but that will always happen with youngsters.

What concerned me more though was the absolute lack of class amongst Franks, Compton, Harewood, Collins and Poole.

They showed me nothing. No guile, no turn of pace, no running into space, no skill to unlock defences. NOTHING.

The kids stand no chance surrounded by these nomarks.

I was particularly disappointed with poole.......a player I rated hugely 18 months ago.

Franks is a nothing player. He has no attributes that I consider necessary for a £20 admission fee.

Compton can do it, but appears to be as loopy as Ritchie Jones.

Collins is finished. His free kick that he kicked into the mill house seats was embarrassing.

Flinders looks bored.

Walton too slow.

Monkhouse just too in and out.

I know I am not the best judge, but for me it would be easier to list the players I would keep than release.

Flinders
Duckworth
Walker
James

and to be honest......that really is it.

Maybe some of the other youngsters that I cant comment on.

I'm quite impressed with Holden, overall he's had a pretty decent season. I don't think this formation really helps him as there's a lack of defensive support that would normally come from a winger.

Agree with Chip, Collins is ideal to have as cover, we could really do with a Michael Nelon style player.

I think it's just because people know there's a problem choosing players when so many either won't come to the north-east or else will want higher wages than the Club will pay. At least the loanees have already agreed to be here on principle, and at least we know how they play.

Anyway, who are the players people would try and recruit from other teams?
