I thought someone would say that.

For a couple of reasons I don't that's realistic. Not that Hignett won't be saying 'sign this kid' but they need to over half the yearly loss they make already to comply to FFP. So I don't think they'll be spunking all of any transfer budget they have (if they have any for fees) on an a 18 year who might not be ready for week in week out Championship Football. Also it would be egg on the face of the famed youth set up signing a player back they released for decent cash.

I'm sure clubs are interested but they'll be better off ones than the Boro.

Can't argue with that, I think boro are gunna be looking to sell 1 to 2 kids, bring a few new ones through and then pick up the odd experienced player on a free, bit like whitehead last year.

600-700k on a untested 18 year old might be pushing it for them

If the case with Hignetts compensation is still dragging on then I cant see Ken selling anyone to Boro to be honest.

This is it. Exactly.

Some of you seem to have forgotten just where we are right now.

I wouldnt be fucking bothered if cooper decided to get rid of every fucker.

Now I realise there are a few kids that have potential, but we have been here before.

From what some have said about the joke awards last night, it seems we will have few old men, the kids currently here, and a few more kids on loan.

Well that hasnt exactly served us well this season has it?

And yes, I know if we had kept certain players we may have got into the play offs........but thats the trouble with loans isnt it?

And if that argument is used, it would be quite easy to conclude we would have been relegated without them.

Cooper needs to get rid of 80% of the squad, and form his own team.

20th in division four makes this a fact.

if we sell Walker for anything less than a million then I'll be extremely surprised.

If we sold him for more than a million id be more shocked

Walker is 3 year younger, playing in a position that the club can demand more for compared to a centre back. He's also got longer left on his contract than Baldwin did.

Baldwin had 6 months plus the year we always give automatically, we had the upper hand. He was a centre back who could play in centre mid too. Give me Baldwin over walker anyway. Baldwin was still only 21. Huge potential. We give him away

Walker is most exiting and talented young player who I've seen at Pools good enough realistically to play at the highest level.

Baldwin has the potential to be a very good player but I think his ceiling is the Chanpionship. The least we are going to get is £750,000 and if he kicks on gets another move that will rise again. Added to his personal need to move it was a good deal for both parties.

I think it's harder to find a creative, goalscoring midfielder than it is to find a defensive one/ centre half, personally speaking

We could do with Peterborough going up and then we would get more money for Baldwin.

Did Hodcroft say the money can't be spent or just that it can't be included in next seasons estimated turnover for FFP?

Interesting comment Cooper made on late kick off the other night when talking with the Gateshead manager I picked upon when tailing about financial constraints he said 'and Gary has greater ones than me' it's widely known Gateshead are bankrolled by the chairman and pay decent money in wages. Cooper has a competitive budget and talked about signing good players that's what it's all about. Getting the right players and ones that will improve in.

Don't you listen to Hodcroft? All that money would go on VAT or tea and fairy cakes
Selling players for a large sum doesn't help your FFP cap don't you know

weird that isnt it?

Because in any other business trading, selling or buying, adds to the business turnover.

So if you sell a player for cash, that cash is recorded on the accounts, and contributes to turnover.

Like I said before, someone is lying about FFP.

We could have spent some of the money this season, but crafty ken sold him at 10 to 11 on deadline day just to make sure no one asked for any pennies to be released to poor colin.

He's crafty our ken.

What I find ironic about this thread is the fact that prior to that glorious last 30 minutes against Morecambe, most people were being less than complimentary about most of the playing staff. Then hey presto.... safe at last, a warm glow consumes evetyone and we now realise that we made a mistake and the useless canutes who nearly lost us our league status are now world beaters who we love and want to have our collective babies to be cherished for ever...... or possibly not.
Let's apply some logic. We came close to losing our league status is what the records will say. Time for change.

We only came within a shout of losing our League Status partly because of injury's at the wrong time in key areas then losing 6 in a row.

I'm pretty sure if we'd have been a bit luckier in that regard we could have finished inside the top half, win on Saturday and we wouldn't have been far away.

You can't really blame someone like Neil Austin for example who'd had a good season up to the point he got injured. Monkhouse was ruled out just before the 6 game run of defeats as well he's played alright, and the likes of Burgess, James, Harewood, erm Sweeney (struggling now  ) have all suffered injuries. You can't release everyone and I maintain the season hasn't been a total disaster, we've shown some encouraging signs and played some nice football. We need to release 6 or 7 with 3 or 4 of those being big earners and replace them with better players. The margins are fine we just need to improve as a squad not completely start again.

could it not be argued that we only got so far up the league because of loan players?

We were rock bottom early in the season.

This is the bunch mainly that haven't been absolutely dog shite for about 5 years.

We can make excuses for injuries this year but what was the excuse last year? and then the year before? N the boring as year before?

Everyones always saying oh lets keep monky he's a good player etc, and the same about Austin, but they've on the whole been a bit shit for a good few years now. Where'd we finish last year? How average where we the year before?

If people want monkhouse n his 6 goals a season when it doesn't matter, and his good performances after Christmas then go for it.

I fancy better.

I'm sure we'll use the loan system next season as well, name me a club at this level that won't, if Cooper can attract some of the quality we have had on loan this season then I'm not seeing a problem.

Maybe it's time to release Monkhouse but anyone suggesting Austin goes isn't of the full shilling; good player at this level. Decent left backs are not easy to find.

I heard Walton Monkhouse and Rutherford released. Flinders, James, Austin held to their option year. Collins offered player/coach role and Sweeney offered new deal on lower wages.

It seems plausible, but the Sweeney thing would definitely not be Coopers doing

What you heard isn't true then because Poole and Austin had options activated last season;

http://www.hartlepoolunited.co.uk/news/ ... 11760.aspx

Franks must be out of contract as well.

I would also be staggered if Sweeney was offered a contract.

Austin ended up signing a 1 year + option year last year instead of just the option.

If Sweeneys given another year then that's one of the biggest wastes of a wage I've seen in the IOR era, n you could probably do an IOR 'shouldn't have got another year but did somehow XI'

It says as clear as day on that link, at that stage the players who hadn't been sorted weren't mentioned. If he'd have signed a new deal it would surely say he'd signed a new deal?

What about Poole and Franks?

I'm sure you have your 'sauces' but it seems a bit doubtful.

Mind you it's certainly underwhelming enough to be a Pools retained list!

That would add up though as neither will be involved on Saturday presuming Monkhouse's knock will keep him out. I wouldn't be upset if either stayed but could see Coopers logic in releasing both.

I doubt any of the players involved on Saturday know yet as that wouldn't make sense.

if Sweeney stays then that is definitely by Hodcroft's hand yet again and not the manager's

I really hope not because it tells me if that happens yet again, then it is why Pools will never succeed on the pitch as we should - while the manager is undermined constantly by people who know fuck all about football

I really hope that is not the case

Hearing Sweeney's turned down his contract and will seek employment elsewhere.

Not sure how true any of this is but got no reason to doubt it, it all seems quite plausible. Would be nice if we gave him a testimonial in the summer.

without wishing to sound unkind/ungrateful cos he's a good lad and that - but FFS he's no longer anywhere near good enough for league football

He needs to move on, I'm sure he can probably do a job for someone as he has for Pools for a number of years lets not forget he's had some good seasons but his career was just drifting to an end here. No idea why Pools wouldn't see that unless the offer was out of a sense of loyalty but was massively reduced to the point they knew he'd turn it down.

Kens got form with this though hasn't he? Stevo, daz Clarke, Micky Barron, boydy, all got another year against n the managers say so and barely played.

We don't need to be loyal to Sweeney, it's football not friendship.

Sweeney, Monkhouse and Walton etc are players who could at best be described as average. I despair of people deluding themselves at their future contribution. For some reason a fair percentage of our fans get all misty eyed if you're a 'canny lad' or a fist pumping gobshite and there's the problem...we cling on to them in the hope they'll come good.... cut the umbilical eh...?
It really is time for ordering the skip and the day has now arrived to see what Coopers about.....hanging on to the old faces will speak volumes...build your own team on new foundations.

Flinders, Rafferty, Franks and Compton held to option year.

Duckworth, Richards, James and Walker offered new deals.

If Duckworth, Richards, James and Walker reject the offers they'll be held to their option year.

Boagey released.

The option year is normally given after 2 years, so I dunno why comptons getting his now.

Walker only signed his first contract last summer, I doubt that was for one year considering how highly he was rated.

One thinks that's all bullshit

If were only giving shit hot teenagers 1 year deals then the club really is going down the swanny.

It'll have been absolute minimum 2 years

Given the vast majority of Pools contracts seem to be 2 years with a 1 year option no way Walker is out of contract, he may have been offered improved terms to try and keep him focused on staying.
