Very sad news. They have been going for yonks. They obviously sponsored our 90-91 promotion shirt too! :(

I heard that Yuills didn't mean to sponsor us in 1990-91. Apparently our kit supplier let us down/Gary Gibson didn't pay them and we got the strip from one of the colliery clubs, Blackhall I think. Yuill sponsored them so we ended up with them on our shirts, maybe they stumped up a bit to keep it on later in the season?

I bought one to play five a side in early on in the season and it hasn't got any badge or Pools branding at all. I know it sounds a bit odd but it does explain the radical one season only chevron design as well.

Is my memory going mad but didnt we have a badge on the promotion shirt?

I think we should bring back the chevron design for next season when we can make a push for promotion.

Maybe they just didn't want the club to be associated with Rob McKinnon's tache and stripped him of his badge until he agreed to shave?

There are loads of images with Badges, and loads without. I'll tell you what I can remember.

Those shirts were made in Shildon in what was basically a Sweatshop. Cant recall the name of it, but the timber company I worked for in 1990 used to sell them shitloads of plywood becuse the same company had a sideline in rabbit/guinea pig hutches (seriously). Norland Sports? Summat like that.

The original set of strips (see pre-season photocall) had badges on. However, once washed the shirts were of such a poor quality that we needed a new set after about three games, and quickly. These arrived "sans badge" but WITH the Yuills Logo. (the badge was embrodered, whilst the logo was just a screen print). This set of kits lasted a good while longer and we played minus badges for the mid-chunk of the Promotion Season. I'm PRETTY sure that we then got more kits, which were made by a different firm, later in the season. Same design, but they were manufactured from a different fabric which had a herringbone-check pattern woven into it. Noticibly different. These shirts (which were badged) lasted the rest of the season. Garry Gibson had already sorted the Bukta deal out by then (he mentions it in an April 1991 programme article) and the Chess Board Kit for our Third Division season was already sorted WAY before we were promoted. Indeed, I had a chessboard shirt in Early August 1991, theres photos of me in Fort William wearing it and I was still in Fort William when we played Torquay Away first game of 1991-92 in the chesboard kit.

The Shildon side of it fits with what I got told about the collieries link though.

Anyway, I just dug mine out and it has the herringbone check but they can't have been much better quality as it appears to have shrunk and doesn't fit me very well now.

damn right, I had that one and the yellow one, but now got neither. Also the ones from the seasons before, I grew out of them quite quickly because of alcohol and fast food consumption, sadly

well if we get these ones we talked about recently, we could crack on reviving them all!! and the bonus is there won't be abny sponsor logo on!!

If I could remove the sponsor logos from every single one of my shirts, or knew how it could be done, I'd get it done without a second's thought

Possibly not Yubep. The shirt design maybe copyrighted by the manufacturer, their logo will be copyrighted, the sponsor logo will be copyrighted by the company and only leased for a season or two (depending on contract) for Pools to use. As for the Pools badge, do Pools own the copyright? I only ask this a a couple of years back I heard a conversation, whereas it was asked to the Chairman of a Northern League Club whether the Supporters club could use the Club badge. The answer was "I don't know as the badge design and therefore use of, is owned by the design company not the club, you'd have to ask them." Weird legal thingy that a club doesn't own the rights for its own brand!

i'm suprised Yuill's aren't sitting on fucking mountains of cash judging by the saving they must have made using shite materials for the flat I bought off them in the early 90's.

I reckon to design and produce shirts in a limited run would cost us a fortune. Newcastle etc. do it because they're guaranteed a few thousand sales. We'd sell probably 2-300 max?

Shame because I really want the 87-90 blue camerons shirt.
