I was one of the 106 at Roots Hall last night, maybe my judgement was clouded by a two hour drive, but Brad Walker's goal was sublime, I've not seen a replay yet, but it had goal of the season written all over it. Maybe on replay it won't look so special, but it was one of those moments you hope for when investing time and money to get to an away game. The phrase 'worth the entrance fee alone' springs to mind.

As for the rest of the game, we rode our luck, cleared off the line more times than I'd like to remember, but battled hard and fought for each other, from front to back. A battling performance which deserved a point for our efforts, if I was a Southend fan I'd be feeling a little peeved though.

Performances like the sound of that one remind me of the turner/Newell promotion season in 03.

Backs against the wall stuff, everyone digging in.

Just caught the goal on Sky Sports News this morning. Absolutely stunning. The technique was excellent. If scored at a higher level you would be seeing the goal for weeks on end.

I was right behind nice cushioned chest control, but not our useful looping volley, just a composed technique with body and knee over the ball and a sweetly timed strike that rocketed into the net in a blink.

My first comment to my lad this morning ' worth the entrance' money. Anyway my lad's punishment is he is ball boy at Gillingham tonight and I have to watch!

An over used term maybe but that was a world class strike.

Walker is 17 years old but playing with the confidence and maturity of a 37 year old at the minute, though if anyone from another club is reading that was an amazing strike by Steve Howard to level the scores, I'm amazed the club let him go.

Goal 10/10
Holdens clearance 10/10

2 outstanding pieces of football, the goal will get the plaudits but that clearance was just as good and important

Great to see both are from our youth system

I was at that game - FA Cup match, but I was zombied right through the game, cos I drove there from Gatwick airport following a 9 hour flight from the US

I couldn't remember a thing about it, I had to sleep it off on the night and watch the highlights again the next day

more of a skimmer, from a very similar position, in the fa cup i believe during a 1-1 draw.

Maybe it was fate.

Thought it was E Williams who scored in the FA Cup.

Think we beat them 1-0 in the League with an early Eifion goal.

that was the same season, Eifion raced away to rifle one in low and hard in the 1st minute, then we just shut up shop after that

It might actually have been Turner's last match in his first spell in charge, just before I went on my joliies to the US of A
We won 2-1 at Exeter I seem to remember while I was away, which was Colin West's only game in charge as interim boss

Newell's first match was away at Orient, which we also won

More more I watch that goal line clearance the better it gets.
