Mushy peas seem to arouse a very negative response amongst some down here. Years ago I was in Sainsbury's near Chingford and they had tins of mushy peas on offer - I normally make my own from those Whitworth's bags of dried peas but thought, "why not" and piled a load of tins into me trolley. A woman next to me said to her husband, "Look at that (pointing at the tins I was putting into the trolley), how disgusting!". I was so surprised that I just carried on with me shopping but when I'd thought about it a while I tracked them down (in the shop, not in a stalking style) and they got short shrift from me and soon scurried off.

Few people I've worked with turned their nose up when I said I like corned beef and tomato sauce sandwiches but with the sarny squashed a bit, if you get me.

When I worked in Sheffield, daily breakfast was a dripping cake. A big flat bun smeared with beef dripping, or in other words a fat samwidge.

Me and our lass have made an effort to feed the bairns all manner of stuff so they aren't fussy in older age. They'll happily eat curries, all types of invertebrate seafood and even pig trotters.

Yet they turn their nose up at cabbage and broccoli.

Many years ago I rode to Hart on me bike to pick up an ox tongue that my mother won in a raffle. It was unbelievably heavy. She boiled it for yonks and stuck it in a tongue press that she'd borrowed - it was top notch.

Don't suppose it would be that easy to borrow a tongue press these days.....
