Bought an MLS franchise that will be based in Miami. Headline quotes DB as saying "we" will build the stadium not using public funding. I take it the "we" is major investors and not posh and Becks own money. Mind you if Posh is part of the design team the interior decor will be nice (if you;re a fashionista).

On another point why Miami? Apart from a hot Winter climate for Posh and Becks to top up their tans, from memory Miami's population demographic 's majority is Cuban. Cuba's national sport is baseball. What I'm getting at is most MLS franchises seem to be from Cities where there is a large contingent of the population whose ancestory is from Countries where football is popular, ie LA (Mexican), New York (Italian/Irish) etc. Presumably the City of Miami has given the Franchise their "support". I baseball for instance Cities have promised owners a new stadium, tax breaks etc if they move their franchise there, which disenfranchises the fans but is economically more attractive for the owners.

Negotiated his LA Galaxy contract so he could start an MLS team on the cheap and will likely build a stadium & team that will be his pension. There will be no shortage of media attention on the place and no shortage of decent players who want to pop over to play in somewhere warm and fancy for a couple of years.

Apparently footy or 'sacker' as they call it is becoming really popular among Miamians, regardless of their heritage, and therefore is the most obvious choice for a new team, especially if Beckham is endorsing it.

I wonder if David Foley will play for/against them?

Beckham is no mug when it comes to money etc and he has pulled a rabbit out of the hat with this one as every tom dick and Harry in the USA will want to play for that team.

Going to Miami in April 2015 for my 50th, might take in a game. No doubt it'll be all up and running in six weeks! Ive been to Florida a couple of times in the last few years and they are football daft. As Compo says, a lot of Hispanics and a LOT of Jamaicians/West Indians who again are footy mad. Never forget the dude in the Nike Outlet looking at my Pools shirt and shouting "Hey!!!! Jeff Stelling"!!!!

At the press conference he was introduced as Mr Beckman ...... football in the States....? .... they were saying the same things in the 70's.
