The whole of the keeper's balls were over the line he had to dive that far back to scoop it out.

anyway.... if retrospective red cards are given for various offences.... why aren't there retrospective red cards for massive examples of cheating like that?

Some Man Utd twat of a fan threw a lit flare into the Sunderland crowd last night, I hope retrospective action gets taken for this.

They dont have the financial clout to compete with Man City and Chelsea, and they dont have a gifted manager like Wenger. Failing to qualify for the Champions League ( hopefully ) will put them even further behind the 8 ball.

They have borrowed heavily under Fergie and the club is saddled with debt, so no doubt they will try and force some new Fair Play ruling to make everyone come down to their level, or the Yanks will bail out.

I remember when I was working at Garlands a few years back and saying to all the odious plastics in the canteen that in 5 years time Man United will exist in the shadows of Man City and I got laughed it.

It didnt even take that long.

Without new owners they are going nowhere, and no manager on earth is gonna change that. Couldn't be happier, I even hope Sunderland beat them in the second leg.

I dislike United like any other Poolie but I have to disagree with some of this.

The Glazers bought United around 2005 for £1470m and at one point had debt of over £700m. At this point 80% of their profit was used to pay interest, absolutely crippling. This debt has constantly reduced since then and is now around £300m level. In the meantime the Glazers have increased Uniteds revenues massively, kept costs under control and their profitability is now much greater. In 2014 their projected interest cost will be just 10% of their profit. That's a massive turn around.

In a couple of years (should they choose to do so) the debt will be all but gone and they will have the financial clout to blow City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal out of the water (Uniteds commercial income equates to that of Chelsea and Arsenal combined). City and Chelsea have only been able to spend as big as they have because of their owners. United will be able to do it within the fair play rules.

The retirement of Fergie in financial value must be in the hundreds of millions. In short I believe United will have to spend hundreds of millions, much like Chelsea and City to be a title contender again. I've heard the figure 200m mooted in the press which will be available to Moyes over the next 18 months, but thats just speculation.

The timing of Fergies retirement will not have been coincidence, it will have been put to him that if he were to retire any earlier it could be at risk of financial meltdown for United and their future as one of the biggest clubs in the world at risk.

Think back to 80% of profit going on interest for loans. No Champions League would result in making a loss, no transfer funds for the purchase of RVP which won them last years title etc. Downward spiral. However current situation of 10% profit spent on interest, massive profits, massive transfer funds for the current new Manager.

Sad to say but the Glazers have played a blinder.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4629401.stm

Wow you got all of that right apart from the facts. He didnt pay anything remotely like £1470 million, it was a listed company at the time and what he paid is a matter of public record.

He took a debt free club, borrowed against its assets, and saddled it with debt.

They only got £300 million left to pay off ? Geddin, what an excellent position to be in.

The rest of the crap about " United " blowing Chelsea and Man City out of the water in 2 years under the Glaziers is complete and utter horseshit. Just switch to supporting Man City mate, its easy done, and they will be on telly just as much as the other mob soon.

I was going to reply Chip but I thought I'd leave that pleasure to you.

Does anyone expect Moyes to let Sunderland get to the League Cup final to save the embarassment of being battered by Man City?

hopefully they'll rub their faces in it and they'll win fuck all this season... they'll be desperate to not even give him a single cup this year... although they are also symptomatic about what's wrong with modern footy... nothing and nobody is more offensive or repugnant to ordinary fans like us than fucking man united....

I'll give it 5 years before they are all man city fans... then the 'lovely lovely person' cycle starts again.

Why am I not allowed to kill them all?

It might take 20 years going around the world but I'm willing to do it

It is a well known fact that anyone from Hartlepool, or any other town nowhere near Manchester, that supports Manure, has great issues around insecurity and have probably been abused during childhood.

Probably is best to put them out of their misery.

It's also interesting he says Man Uniteds income is greater than that of Chelsea and Arsenal combined, yet the last published figures from Delottie have Man Utd income for 11-12 season at 395 million, Chelsea at 322 and Arsenal at 290.

I don't think 322 added to 290 comes to less than 395 !

I said Man Utds 'commercial income' if you'd like to look again, thats only a part of their income not related to ticket sales etc, you've took revenue as a whole

I work in Finance/Accounting and love football, hate Man Utd but can't help but be interested in whats happened over there as a business model - although who can remember those figures off the top of their head? Yes I used google

Granted they didn't pay £1470m as it was a gradual process of taking over the club but my post was already getting pretty long and boring

I've supported Pools since a young lad (had a season ticket up until my kids were born so for around 12 years) and always hated Man Utd, grew up with alot of Man Utd fans. I was born in 85 so the class of 92 was when I was 7, the Man Utd era. And the effect it has on town really irks me. These Premiership clubs cost the town hundreds of thousands, if not millions (isn't the club worth £6 million per year?). If people from the town supported our club we'd have more employment, more money within the towns economy, less reliance on IOR, everyone wins

All im saying Chip is fundamentally you are wrong, not because I love Man Utd, but because you are wrong

If you take away the emotional aspect of hating Man Utd then business wise the Glaziers have played a blinder. They did saddle the club with crippling debt (which Man Utd fans hated and amused me highly), but the debt is now more than halved because they are massively profitable, the business commercially is fantastic. They are in a transitional period but can smash their way through it with money, without the Glaziers having to put a penny in

There is the possibility that Glaziers give Moyes virtually nothing and Man Utd fail, because who knows what their agenda is?

Probably greed

Is it wrong to hope for that?

Obviously a bigger window is going to let more natural light into his office and help him have a more positive outlook but I don't think it's the key to Moyes success or failure.

LOL err no. You should have a read of the Guardian article .

Man United WERE debt free before Glazier took over. They were a listed company owned by the shareholders and anyone including you or I could buy shares in them.

As I said what Glazier paid for the club is on the public record. It's not something open to conjecture. We know exactly what he paid and we know exactly what he borrowed.

How the fuck can he have halved a debt that didn't exist when he took over ?

The club is using its income to pay off the money he borrowed to buy the club. The business model works for him, his family, and the American companies who lent him the money at exorbitant interest rates, some of which he is allegedly connected to . Everyone else including the fans has been royally fucked.

I do so hope this is 100% correct. I would probably break some ribs laughing.

Chips at it as well, I've heard several pundits say this is a big transfer window for David Moyes. It appears quite literally.

Like Man Utd?

I think you get my point really you just like scoring points. Guess you got to do it somewhere now Garlands is shut and you can't school the many young students that worked there

I think I saw you once in Changes while a band played with no singer. You had a backpack on, on a Friday night. Stood on your own on your phone for about an hour and left

They have assets I'll buy everything the club has its paws into, then will set up my own loan company with money you lend me and we'll split the profits 60-40 to me.

I'll rename the grounds Roker Park (For Newcastle) and St James Park (for Sunderland), will recoup my losses and then when I have a profit cut off all managerial budgets and refuse to pay any player more than £250 a week and will make season tickets £1.60.

If you don't back me I'll just go to dragons den.

You can't help where you are born, but you can disown Man U.

I have only met one 'real' Man U fan, a lad I worked with from Urmston. And he turned out to be a right twat, on his leaving do wanting to fight every fucker after two pints.

Maybe mister b is still 10.

I have loads of footy shirts, I've started collecting them.

So far I have

5 pools shirts
1 Inter away shirt
1 CSKA Moscow shirt
1 France shirt
1 Northern Ireland shirt
1 Borussia Dortmund shirt
1 Queen of the South shirt

I wish I could afford to have hundreds.

Settle down Chip I only asked if it was you in Changes. And i'm still unsure whether or not it was you?

I ask as I know quite a few members of this board, one being Aido who I have on facebook. I always keep an eye out for anything Aido related on FB as he often (or he used to until there was a bit of bother) would like 'Rack of the Day' which I would enjoy looking at, without getting into trouble as it was on my facebook and I hadn't intentionally searched for it

Anyway I see this guy called 'Chip Fireball' (including profile picture) post on one of Aido's status'. I found it unusual someone wouldn't use their real name on FB. It reminds me of when I was around ten years old and would call myself Bananaman and even changed my signature to that of a Banana (as I practiced for when I had fans from playing at a reasonable level, who would obviously want my signature)

I'm a little bit disappointed I matured as this was one of the best times of my life and I wish I could have carried this pseudonym right through until I was middle aged

My apologies for providing a poor and weak argument Chip, I hope this doesn't effect our future friendship. If I see you in Changes again would it be possible to show me what is in your backpack if I buy you a drink?

Ah right, so now you have lost all of the arguments based around FACT, you start with the personal insults. And you even manage to get those wrong as well.
