Puzzling. Once a player leaves, regardless of how long they've been here, they're an ex player, end of !
I'm not sayng you have to be abusive towards them,, but when they're playng against us with the intention of beating us, what sort of rarf stands singing their fecking praises. ...jeeeez.

Surely there's no harm in paying respect to a player that played 544 games for us?? He scored the penner that gave us the biggest game in our history??

Bit harsh maybe??

Being respectful is fine singing an opposition players name during the game is down right thick.

These are probably the same people who think crucifying young players in a Pools shirt is fine.

I don't think it's about the player.....more about the mindset of those singng the players praises.

Yeah, maybe. He got slated on here last year. Now he's getting a game with the league leaders. Maybe he's better than was was popularly thought, and maybe some people respect his input to the most succesful team in Pools history. What do I know??

This isnothing to do with any ex player ....... we are discussng the eejits praising those who are actually playing against us... the players past contributions can be debated till the cows come home, but for the 90 minutes they play against us, their past history with us is utterly irrelevant. What goes on in the minds of people to display this cap wringing, forelock tugging sort of respect ...... especially during a match....?

Before..No problem...after no problem for 90 minutes he's the F****** opposition , the anti-Christ. We're meant to make the opposition feel anything from a little wary to needing to go and change their shorts/jockstrap during the game not sing their praises to raise their game.

it's bad when almost certainly some of the singers of that song will almost certainly have been guilty of badmouthing some of our own players this very season

that's what sticks in the throat a bit

Unexpected - Damn Right it was. So you expect OUR FANS to sing songs about every ex-player. A player playing to BEAT US. I don't care if he'd played a 1000 games for us during those 1000 games he would have had support from our fans then. He doesn't get it when he's in a different coloured shirt. Thats up to the fans of the club he's playing for.

If there really is one thing I DO NOT EXPECT at any ground when I'm watching Pools is Pools fans Chanting for an opposition player during the 90 minutes that game is in progress.

Right I'll begin the only one Tommy Miller on New years day, maybe even a Danny Nardiello chant.

Well move to Chesterfield buy a season ticket for them and go in their end and sing his name...easy...who do you support ex players trying to BEAT us or Pools. Or is it Ok for Humphreys(or any ex player) to score the winning goal against us because he played a load of games for us.

Maybe on new years day someone(if it happens) can start a chant of one nil to Tommy Miller one nil to Tommy Miller

yep - there are NO exceptions

and for what it's worth, Humphreys did nothing to deserve at least 200 of those appearances

Last seen as a good player somewhere in 2007 for HUFC

I moaned during the game about it. There are times when somethings matter more than the game itself. This IMHO is one of them. I agree though was an excellent game and even with 10 men we went for it.

His influence is clear Chesterfield flatly refused to go into the break with a 2-0 advantage. They actually scored but 7 or 8 of the players informed the referee of a clear infringement whilst telling the linesman how offside the scorer was.

some folks just don't get it at all.Never mind eh!!! The 90 minutes are black and white - partisan - one side or the other - no in between - no quarter given

We are Hartlepool end of chat, There should never be a song for opponents during the game. Unfathomable that anyone would do it during the actual game, and it is a problem for me.I have a big problem with it

Me thinks some of the protestors took part in aforesaid song today
- which makes them wimps

It was only kids really that we're doing the singing to Richie, they probably just think of him as being a good player for a lot of years at Pools.

Quite a bite about something that in the and scheme of things doesn't matter.

Humpries was a regular in our side for a long time, for a lot of fans probably their whole time supporting Pools has been until this year a side with Humphries in it.

I wasn't there, didn't join in, wouldn't have joined were I there and was glad Humpries left because he looked way past his best as a player for us.

But I won't be losing any sleep over it having happened, there are a handful of Pools players who'll be remembered by every fan, Humpries is one of them and if you didn't expect some of our fans to show him some respect then you're deluded.

What the fuck have you wrote here bob?? Go and buy a chesterfield season ticket?? Really, really did you write that??

For the people who wernt there when this 'cringeworthy' song was sang when the ball was out of play. He walked towards the pools fans to take a corner, then it stopped before it was taken. End of day the guy played for pools more times than anybody in our history. It was a very respectful few seconds. Why anybody would get wound up over this is quite pathetic really. Buy a chesterfield season ticket is a far more cringeworthy comment then anything that happened during yesterday's game.

Personally I thought the pools fans were outstanding yesterday and sang non stop for 90 minutes and I'm surprised this wasnt mentioned yet a 20 second respectful song to a former player was. Some people have some very strange issues

fuck sake, you bunch of whinging twats. Plymouth fans sang it about Walton, do you think there was a load of pathetic self-flagellation over that down there ? was there fook. Bob, get a bastard life and fill your retirement up with something constructive instead of slapping your bell-end over irrelevant minutiae.

fucking grown men seething over a minority of fans feeling that they want to show appreciation for a player who was a big part of this club's most successful period ever. FOOKING GROW UP !!

not something I would have done, but I sure as fuck wouldn't be twisting my fookin face up over someone else choosing to do it. COCK PISS BALLS, HAVE YOU NOTHING ELSE TO FUCKING WORRY ABOUT ???

Talk about a storm in a teacup .. Its already been said that it "was the kids" who where singing this .. Ritchie was the star player over their time supporting the club to sing his praises for 20 seconds is hardly going to change the course of a game is it?? Or have I missed something....

What you've missed is a few here like to play the better fan card. Because they've got nobody to slag off for booing our own players they've resorted to moaning about things that don't matter and that anyone with more than some cloth between their ears can understand.

Note understanding why something happened isn't the same as it being something you would have done yourself.

No. But ask Yubep who also wasn't there but has a very fixed idea about what happened. If I met Ritchie tomorrow I'd shake his hand and thank him for his role in the best period of Hartlepool United's history. Some people however like to piss and moan all the time. Good luck to 'em.

Not really wanting to prolong the argument but why would you want to ridicule a player who has given so much to Pools over the vast majority of his career. OK with those who are booted out cos they are no good or can't be bothered, but Ritchie, seriously! The chanting of his name was, as stated limited to a short period during the game when the ball was out of play, and at the end. I didn't sing myself but didn't feel it was out of place.

Personally I though it was the right decision to let him go at the end of last season. However after yesterdays performance (and I believe others this season) he could probably have played a big part this season and helped the young talent we have to mature.
