Mo Farah deserves to be awarded BBC Sports Personality just for his London Marathon DNF & his 2nd place in GNR2013 - Come on AP McCoy!!! #GiddyUp

Used to love this event but after last year I won't be watching. Wiggins did not deserve it last year. He won the Tour de France because he had the best team, to prove this was a joke why isn't froome gona win this year. Weres the difference in what they achieved???

What has Murray done on this calender year? How many tournaments has he played and how many has he won??

People like tony McCoy and phil Taylor destroy there sports on a weekly basis not once a Fukn year. Tennis is more high profile than the likes of darts but at the end of the day there both sports. Taylor has lost 2 finals this year and won the rest. Absolutely outstanding achievement. McCoy is just a machine who works hard and rides 7 days a week breaking every record that has ever stood and thoroughly deserves this honour. Winning 1 tennis tournament in June for me dosnt really represent the "year" part of the award.

Wiggins also got an olympic gold last year but there was a string of people to choose from.

It has to go to either Mohammed Farah or Andrew Murray who have both had a great 2 years. Phil Taylor is a knob and I don't think most people glass darts as a sport, although I like the game it is only really a notch up from dominos....

How much is it awarded on personality and how much on personality? If it was the latter then how come Darrel Clarke never won it?

Stopped reading at a "great 2 years" please explain what last year has to do with this years award?

That 3 minute speech by Murray felt like it lasted at least an hour.

Him being abroad didn't help, but he did apologise for not being there.

Such an obvious winner though.

Real story is 2nd - How did Leigh Halfpenny get 2nd?

Surprised Farah wasn't Top 3.

Somebody has to say it- darts and snooker are games not sports. Running is a way of keeping fit in order to participate in sports not a sport itself. Jockeys are just persons of restricted growth strapped onto giant horses so that people can gamble their money away without having to admit that they are daft enough to pour endless cash into a bandit.

I'm not sure how anyone can believe that about jockeys when you read what the likes of McCoy have to go through justto take part in the sport they love.

Not sure why a celebration of sport required three live musical numbers which added nothing to the occasion. The awards were all very predictable - pretty boring stuff.

the ferguson award is a bit daft, considering he hated n boycotted the bbc for 7 years.

He should have sent mike phelan to pick up the award on his behalf.

Pointless award, pointless programme.

Any one that watched it should be given 40 lashes.

I had a feeling they would have John Newman on the show last night.

What was all the more unbelievable was that they gave Ferguson the award in Leeds of all place.

Even he noticed that and had to say something.

Who the fuck is John Newman?

Colin Newman or Tom Newman yes, but John Newman? I've honestly never, ever heard of him, or the song he sang, in my life!

I had to google him and it turns out he had a number one single earlier this year. Why you would want him on Sports Personality of the Year remains a mystery.

Thought a lot of people would like him seeing as he sings Northern Soul, This is England kind-of-stuff.

Nobody's really sung anything like that since Thatcher was PM.

Darts has got a lot more respect since Phil Taylor was a SP contender a couple of years ago.

To tell you the truth, I think they wanted him because he is from Settle and SP was in Leeds this year.

The audience cheered anytime anything associated with Yorkshire was mentioned (Hannah Cockcroft, next year's Tour de France starting in Yorkshire).

It's God's County to them, isn't it?

Yorkshire even won more medals at the Olympics than some national teams put together.

I caught a glimpse of BBCSPOTY while I was channel hopping and assumed Gary Lineker was giving his winner's speech.
