Barnsley, despite their league position, have some very very good players and I think we may be in for a very tough day if we get through... but sadly there'll only be about 5000 there so Pools would make fuck all from it either!!!

Bad draw in terms of glamour, but a game I think we can win. Barnsley struggling, won't have many fans, but we make take 750 or so. Worst draw imo would of been someone like Watford, Millwall, Yeovil away, nothing in terms of revenue and likely defeat. Remain optimistic, beat Coventry, then Barnsley then off to Anfield for a first meeting with Liverpool
We have no luck in cup draws, sure Carlisle have played at Sunderland 3 times in the cup over the years.

If you think promotion is going to bring back thousends of missing fans then you are living in cloud cuckoo land. I don't think a decent cup run will bring back thousends either but it will bring in cash which will give us options in transfer market ..

I don't see why fans are so defeatist, a bit of belief and luck can take you a long way like Bradford last season ....

Question - would you like to be non league for the 5th season running, and win at a premier league ground in the 4th round of the Cup like Luton did at Norwich?

Or would you rather be in the football league playing Bury and Rochdale?

I know what the answer to that is, and that's from a Luton perspective

I would rather be a league 2 club, like we are, and have a decent cup run as well. Both are equally important, both in terms of finance and momentum. Success breeds success and you cannot emulate the feel good factor a cup run brings.

I remember in the 70's it was the best feeling in the world getting through to the 3rd round, and sitting by the radio waiting for the draw.

I couldnt care less now about the cup, and doesnt bother me when we get beat.

If we drew a big club in the 3rd round its very likely the would only play their fringe players, and it wouldnt bother a lot of them if we beat them.

The romance has gone from cups now, especially since the introduction of the play offs.

Its much better to get to that final than a good cup run.

Mind you, I am probably in a minority on here, as some of you were positively salivating over the JPT.

Has it fuck gone, your starting to remind me of victor meldrew. Look at the Sunderland game, we took nearly 10000 fans, when in any league game have we ever had that? How many people were glued to the draw yesterday, and if we lose how many of those will be for the next round.

If we had drew man utd or another big club everyone would be buzzing and planning a trip to Coventry for the replay.

To say there's no romance is just completely wrong, we play Cheltenham in Saturday compare that to the feeling of watching us at old Trafford or anfield and they just ain't the same at all.

The romance is only gone to individuals who allow it to. Next season ill be the same, busting to get o the 3rd round and sat excited at the possibility of getting our cup final against a top side. To clubs like pools the 3rd round is the final. The romance is still there and the day it isn't the cup won't exist anymore

If we drew man utd and got 10000 tickets we would sell them all. On that same day we play Southend away and we wouldn't take 500.

For a small club that FA cup is that big chance to play one of the big boys and earn a nice wedge it also sticks to the format that means a club like 1883 FC could end up playing the best side in the land at Wembley. So of course it still has some romance, its the best chance of a side like ours earning massive sums of money without selling our best players and there will be a buzz for any lower league side who have drawn a Premier League side.

Fact: our last FIVE games against Barnsleh (three of them away) have been draws.
None of them, However, have followed an away win at Coventry.

Maybe the romance has gone but the money hasn't and with a following wind the money comes in in the transfer window if we can get the results. From a purely financial point of view it's very important.

If you do well in the cup it doesnt mean that you will do Shite in the league.

Our status as a football club is likely to improve if we got to just the fourth round every year ....

Just ask Bradford fans think if the cup has romance, oh and how did they do last season in the league aswell?

I don't think anybody is suggesting that the cup can't be beneficial for clubs like us but what is being said is that it's not the same as it used to be.

You only have to look at the crowds for FA Cup games now to see that it quite clearly isn't regarded the same as it used to be. Non league and lower league clubs are more interested in prize money generated or getting on TV than any genuine idea of 'romance'.

I'd like to see someone try and argue that the FA Cup is even anything like it was even 20 years ago because it just isn't and probably never will be again. Weakened teams, empty grounds, very little 'romance'.

Disbanding the Cup winners cup didn't help. Probably all part of bumping up the Champions League. The Uefa Cup is like the FA cup now, look at the crowds at Swansea and Wigan in this seasons Uefa Cup. Them european tournaments were better when it was 2 legged format. FA cup was better when it was play till the death, replay, neutral ground etc.
