Yes disappointing. Fans have been spoilt over recent years with the season ticket offer. People now regard the admission price to be around £7 now. Also close to Xmas.

I wasn't there today. We've had a lot of home games recently and I just wanted a couple of weekends to get some jobs at home done pre Christmas.

Sounds like I missed a decent performance but I'll try to get to the replay & to the two Christmas holiday away games to make up for missing today.

Expect it to be much higher if we win the replay and get Arsenal at home.

Those who have been away, Mr Sussex - they'll all come back...

The queues for those tickets will be down the road and around the corner.

I'm going to Morecambe, can't afford Chesterfield as well, so it's a no contest to go to a ground I've never been to, and to witness the first ever league match between the 2 clubs

Far more interesting than yet another game at Chesterfield (although obviously I wouldn't say that if I could afford both)!!

No, I don't watch it.

So they told them Newcastle won, but presumably not about Mandela?

Days like Derby at home in Rd 1 in 1984,(7500 in) will never be repeated. When did the FA cup lose its magic? and why? or is it not the FA cup that has lost its magic, but life itself?

You might be onto something Mr Horden. Life was altogether more magical back in 1984 what with sparkling miner's strikes, a glittery sprinkling of hooliganism and a quite wondrous major recession.

The current government are doing their best to bring back that sort of strife and conflict but it just doesn't feel the same. It is like Christmas day when you no longer believe in Santa - life has lost any appeal for me. Goodbye cruel world.

When I was a kid before I went to Pools regularly and before I was really interested in football I remember the FA cup final being a massive deal no matter who was involved and it seemed to be one of those TV events like the Grand National that everyone made a fuss about & went out of their way to watch.

that sums it up for me as well... it's just been a procession of the top 4 premier teams since about 1999 ish, one final just blurs into another

In fact the only one I remember having an interest in was Portsmouth Cardiff cos it was such a novelty. other than that I have no idea who won what, when or against whom

oh yeah and last season as well, was a bit of a novelty. But 2 finals in what... 15 or 16 years that hasn't had BOREFEST all over it?

It' not been so bad in the last five years, because teams other the Top 4 have won e.g Portsmouth in 2008, Man C in 2011, Wigan in 2013.

It was getting so boring when Chelsea kept winning it all the time.

So what's the last decent final plus build up everyone remembers? When did this magic end?

I remember the build up in 96 for Liverpool v Man U, n them daft suits they had on

That was John Barnes' fault apparently.

Heard him commentate on a Cup match is said those suits were down to him.

See what happens in the replay. If we get through, fantastic.

If we don't, don't worry about it.

See if we concentrate on finishing high in the League.

The odds are teams that end up saying that they should have won at the end of the first tie, don't normally win the replay.

Lend me your brain I'm building a 'lovely lovely person'.

Hardly a surprising crowd give it was £20 in the most expensive month of the year. Out crimes was comparable to all the other games though, the FA Cup are poorly attended these days, 3,300 in the first round was one of the better gates on the day.

I thought the people there got right behind the team though.

100% Spot on.

Cup Final day used to be better than Christmas.

Now I dont even watch the match. There is no real glamour to winning it.

It used to be a bigger priority than winning the league, but now the so-called big teams would rather finish fourth in the league than win the cup.

Well if they dont care, why should I?

The last one i remember watching all day during the build up was the Sunderland vs Liverpool match when Liverpool won and that fella for sunderland could have scored in every round but he missed a sitter in the final. cant remember his name.

Who was the last person to do that anyway?

i bet this statement, made by tony pulis a few months ago, rings true for many on the fa cup...

“I’d watch the FA Cup final on telly. I’d get up at 7am, so excited, go and play football in the streets, then mum would put a little spread out, and we’d eat from the table and watch the game. We’d see the Cup being presented and back out on the streets until 10pm, being Denis Law, Bobby Charlton or whoever was the star of the final.”

My Dad said in the 60's/70's when he was growing up, the cup final was a huge event even if people were not a huge fan of football. He said my nana would start cooking at the crack of dawn, all the family would come round and they would all watch the final together.

We done a similar thing for the 97 final... Boro vs Chelsea, spent hours after trying to replicate the Di Matteo goal.

Used to love playing footy in Ward Jackson park, there were two trees that were the perfect size apart.

Eleven players other than Peter Osgood have scored in every round from the third round onwards. Here they are, in chronological order: Archie Hunter (Aston Villa, winners in 1887); Sandy Brown (Tottenham, winners 1901); Harry Hampton (Aston Villa, winners 1905); Harold Blackmore (Bolton, winners 1929); Ellis Rimmer (Sheffield Wednesday, winners 1935); Frank O'Donnell (Preston, runners-up 1937); Stan Mortensen (Blackpool, runners-up 1948); Jackie Milburn (Newcastle, winners 1951); Nat Lofthouse (Bolton, runners-up 1953); Charlie Wayman (Preston, runners-up 1954); Jeff Astle, above, (West Brom, winners 1968). Then came Chelsea's Osgood in 1970.
