The lasses at his school all love Daley, and during the Olympics, he said so. He also said, most of the lads think hes a bender anyway, and take the piss out of the lasses for fancying him. Kids eh?

And as I watched the Olympics, he did rather mince his way round the swimming pool, a bit like Mr I. (A bit of a giveaway?)

See?

I'm not buying that. He does it for you, doesn't he.

The media and old stuffy people are too set on putting people into boxes whether that is based on colour, race, sexuality or some other characteristic. Yet when you peel back this superficial tat we are all the same and if everyone looked at other people as just another member of the human race rather than having to hang a label on them.

I don't really think there's a youth/age divide here, alien. Not as far as being gay is concerned. Look at the gay bullying that goes on in playgrounds and via text messages...and the resulting suicides.

It's a fucking sad reflection on society when a young man being a homosexual or bisexual or to be honest shagging anyone is deemed newsworthy.

We also must be very dull to be discussing it, what next a story where Rio Ferdinand comes out as black or Amir Khan as a Muslim?

I am surprised so many of you cant see what Alienlife and I see.

He is just a media hungry little faggot, looking to get his next gig.

Like all the one before him, and all the ones that will follow.

I did notice on the BBC this morning that an "expert" has used this story to have a go at football again, and its lack of gay players.

I think Rio coming out as a footballer would be more newsworthy.

Think he has a new series of 'splash' soon on Saturday Nights. How on earth its entertianment seeing 'celebrities' jump of a diving board is beyond me.

It's more acceptable amongst many young people, at least more than it was 15/20 years ago. You'll always get nasty people in schools and sadly they just have more ways to get at their victims, I'm not sure that the gay bullying is as much to do with homosexuality as the way that groups and cliques still exist and very few are brought up capable of seeing people as human beings.

A bit far fetched though, more chance of Tom Daley being elected Mayor of Hartlepool...........

Can you show me where this happens?

There is a lad at St Hilds now, who everyone knows is gay. He is not picked on or bullied in the slightest. Not by anyone. And there are some troublesome lads at that school.

The kids are more tolerant than most give them credit for.

Boom there it is.

His sexuality isn't the thing, he could have told his family and close friends the public didn't need to know.

His publicist however suggested that giving him another reason to appear on a few shows over the coming months and to make himself the darling of the cooing band of morons who will think he is a brave little man for coming out will ensure good ratings for his TV show.

Well, the fact is that gay bullying does happen, and if being gay were normalised, it wouldn't happen.

As a matter of fact, I agree with you in principle. You could also argue that racism is to do with the way groups and cliques operate. As soon as you outlaw
one prejudice, another simply takes its place, but that doesn't mean we should stop trying to eradicate prejudice.

Agree with Alienlife.. It's perfect timing for his new show. On the back of this announcement he will get a few TV interviews to discuss his coming out and also slip in the fact he as an ITV show every Saturday night.. Great play by the Tom Daley team..

Yes, here you go:

•Over half (55%) of lesbian, gay and bisexual young people have experienced homophobic bullying at school.

From: Guasp, April (2012) The school report: the experiences of young gay people in Britain's schools (PDF). London: Stonewall.

The problem is he acts like your average everyday normal likeable guy, but when he speaks, he does tend to speak with a little high-pitched accent which makes him sound slightly effeminate.

So can stressing about GCSE's, premature baldness, being the fat kid, being shit at sport.

Bullying is awful. Full stop.

Being bullied for being fat is just as bad as being bullied for being gay.

But like I said, I dont believe kids these days DO bully the gay kids.

I'm being deliberately obtuse here but how many of those using abusive language knew with 100% certainty their victims were Gay or Bisexual?

The fact that these terms are used by some in a negative manner is the issue not necessarily the singling out of people, the solution comes back to the point I made about society recognising people as humans first and foremost. That requires re-education of the media and more challengingly of the terminally thick that lap up sensationalism and bring up their kids to think that those who are different to them are bad.

It's socially acceptable to hurl abuse at fat people and ginger people and will be ever thus.

Apparently its not socially acceptable to be a fat ginger person who singles out the ring leaders and gives them a kicking. Funny that.

Yes but (and I get the feeling you have) try and tell a school someone is being bullied and they person who feels victimised by the system will be the one who was being bullied, bullies are often popular or in popular cliques and are never seen as bad people.

They are also the ones who cower when confronted and who go on to fail miserably in life.

I would trust any statistics produced by a group that exists to promote homosexuality the same I'd trust any statistics produced by any pressure group. The truth is somewhere in the middle . I expect there is far LESS bullying going on these days than when we where younger.

Well, yes, but I'm not disagreeing with that. The issue is how we bring it about. Do we sit back and wait for x number of generations before the re-education slowly happens...and it will be grindingly slow....or do we also chip away at it now, in ways people will understand?

You can find as many articles as you like but I've but to be honest I've experienced / heard of as much bullying over sexuality as I've seen Burka's in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre... It not an issue to kids these days.. You're far more likely to get taunted for your hair colour, weight or the size of your nose...

Yes, here you go:

The fact that these terms are used by some in a negative manner is the issue not necessarily the singling out of people, the solution comes back to the point I made about society recognising people as humans first and foremost. That requires re-education of the media and more challengingly of the terminally thick that lap up sensationalism and bring up their kids to think that those who are different to them are bad.

Well, yes, but I'm not disagreeing with that. The issue is how we bring it about. Do we sit back and wait for x number of generations before the re-education slowly happens...and it will be grindingly slow....or do we also chip away at it now, in ways people will understand?

I am sure most of us have our own issues in life to really care about this one topic to be honest. Infact, I am still fuming over an issue my lad had at school, which to me is much more important than this gay thing.

And there are many people being bullied all over the world. Including anyone struggling to pay off a mortgage.

Sigh. Probably not.

This.

Him 'coming out' suggests that him having a male partner isn't 'normal' and is a massive issue when in reality it isn't. It's none of our business and certainly isn't worthy of news coverage. So what!!?

Its got to be the biggest non story for decades.

If any human alive didnt suspect Daley was a chutney ferret, then I suggest you are POK.

He was the most obvious candidate for being gay since......well......Ricky Martin.

But he is being classed as oh so brave in the media this morning. Do please welcome to the board.

Yeah, so much of a non-story, the Norwegians are even talking about it:

We've got Plymouth last away game of the season - could be a few wisecracks there from the crowd.

People will have to be careful with what they say, if they feel the need to say anything, in case the Plymouth staff are a little tetchy. But I don't think that will happen.
