Really thought we could have won that but it sounded like when we did eventually start to play well, they scored again!

Maybe the 3 games was too much for us. Time to regroup though!

I've written up a match report for what sounded like 55 minutes of a game, then they scored and it went flat and dragged out.

http://poolieview.wordpress.com/

Apologies for the lack of match report for Tuesday night. I think I would have smashed my laptop up as I couldn't explain my frustration in words banghead

Let's hope tomorrow's results are kind to us and we don't slip too far down the league.

You have written a match for a game we weren't at based on Radio commentary!?

I've attempted to based on radio commentary, messages from mates at the match and whatever else I can use. I was just going to do all the home games as I'm at them all but I'm just practising my own writing style really.

Do you think it's a bad idea or is it worth a try? I just thought it might be helpful to those who didn't have a clue what happened. I won't be offended :-D

You might as well have posted a link to the BBC text commentary.

A match report from someone not at the game isn't worth reading.

Yeah that's understandable mate. I just thought it might have been helpful and I wanted to try and make it a bit more interesting than text commentary but also get a bit more practice at writing them up.

You will have an excellent career in journalism as you have already mastered the basics. Why would you go when you can just ask others.

It wasnt you who told the press that Walton scored an own goal was it??

Yet loads on here are commenting on tonight's game and the selections made. Spender is crucified for this, yet some who are quick to have a go at him are commenting on tonight's game. I thought the rule was, 'if you're not there, say nowt'?

The only comments about tonight's game have been from Mr Fetish who was there, the only debate on here I see is about team selection in the last week. Not any specifics about the game. Most of us have seen two of the three games to be fair.

Good luck with your match reports. Stop being grumpy the rest of you at least the lad based them on BBC Tees and not Pools World.

Perhaps sticking to the ones where you are at the game would be better practice though, that way the resident panel of experts can tell you if you are right.

 I didn't mean to annoy anyone, I just enjoy writing about them and it's hard for me to get to away games. I lied about the BBC Tees thing. I just listen to commentary and I've got a few lads that help me from the matches as much as they can.

Cheers for the feedback! :-D

Do what you want to do, people don't have to read them if they aren't interested. I was neither there nor listening on radio so found it interesting.

It's YOUR blog, do what you want! As you said it's practice for journalism which 60% of the time is picking up someone else's story and rehashing it.

You're a good example of the type of people I attempt to do these away day match reports for. I'm not going to get every detail spot on but I make sure that I just explain what happened in the best detail I can. It's easier with home games because we have a clock and I can see everything that happens and I just make notes of everything on my phone and pick out the most important parts of the game. Even then, I don't get everything right and I need second opinions but nobody is perfect! I just thought doing away matches was helpful to some people and it was a bit of practice for myself as well. :-D

I think this thing about Spender's 'not being there' isn't a proper description of what's going on. If anyone's interested I could give a breakdown of the conversations in which the 'not being there' thing arises.

The conversations mainly consist of comments made by Spender, apparently about football or the Club, but in fact laden with inferences about the views of the other people he's talking to. Naturally the others pick up on these undercurrents and become annoyed, often replying with a knee-jerk reaction (eg 'You weren't there, what do you know?)

Spender is then in a position to attract sympathy from his friends ("no-one will let me say what I think because I wasn't there) and to be able to cast the 'opponents' as objectionable morons.

It's a trick that works over and over again and masks the fact that Spender could if he wanted join in a reasonable discussion by listening to another person's comment and replying to it (even if it's Tree or Grave!) That is, reply to it without insulting the person who said it.

Some of the mods share his approach.

completely agree with Yloop. More than half the time you'll be taking others work and juggling it around to make it your own, besides, it's your blog and you can write what you like!!

Haha much appreciated :)

I just thought that I may have annoyed a few people and that's what I want to avoid! I have to admit that I enjoy writing the home game reports more than I do for away games. I need ways to make the blog more interesting though.

Any advice?

If it helps, Spender doesn't give a fuck. Those shallow self-opinionated, self congratulatory, magi on here can retreat into their onasistic existences. Moi, je ne regret rien.

No, nothing of nothing, I regret nothing
Neither the good I have done, nor the bad
All that is the same (translated idiomatically)
No, nothing of nothing, I regret nothing
It's paid, swept away, forgotten; I am insane with what has happened

With my mementos I lit the fire
My shames, my pleasures
I no longer need any of the these
Swept away lovers with their own tremblings
Swept away forever
I return to zero/nothing

No, nothing of nothing, I regret nothing
Neither the good I have done nor the bad
No, nothing of nothing, I regret nothing
Because my life, because my joy
Today begin with you

No, I regret nothing

May I reiterate, Spender cares not a jot.

Spender is having a wonderful time, despite the efforts of the Bunker cogniscenti to spoil his enjoyment of life.

Nobody commented on individual performances after the game last night. The suggestion that they did is factually incorrect.

There was debate over the last week about whether the squad should be rotated, something the manager discussed with the local media, and for those who dont live here it was repeated on the BBC here :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24912562

Some of us who go to the Reserve games and who have been to the JP Trophy games commented on the form and merits of the fringe players. Having seen the likes of Holden, Richards, Rodney, Walker, etc I would say I'm qualified to do that. Ive also seen us play 3 times in a week this season so feel qualified to comment on that.

When I go into work and the Newcastle and Sunderland fans are commenting on their players I dont join in for the simple reason I havent seen any of them play on anything even remotely resembling a regualr basis. So I'm not in a position to have an opinion.

If people who have never seen some of our players want to comment on their merits, be that Spender or tripledecker or whoever , they are perfectly entitled to do so. Likewise people are entitled to state that their opinion counts for less than shite, as its based on the square root of fuck all.

I felt Cooper had scope to rotate his squad, and I stated several times this was an opinion based on what Ive seen in first team and reserve team games this season.

Poor use of semi colon as well by the way.

I noticed that story in the BBC earlier in the week and was encouraged, thinking Cooper might have rested some.

In the end, he didn't. Perhaps that story was to lure the opposition into a false sense of security. Maybe it was because he changed his mind and took the old school approach?

This turned out to be a mistake against a very decent outfit fresh from promotion and full of confidence at home.

and they are welsh, which grates me. a lot.

Cooper is a fast learner it seems to me. Somebody like Turner just reverted back to square one which rarely worked at the time anyway... Cooper seems astute to me and will find a way to beat these teams next time he plays them. He sees it as a challenge in my opinion, and relishes putting it right

Of course nothing guarantees we would have got more than 0 points if he had rotated, but what's this board for if it's not for speculating.

Spender does not do that on this media. In the early days after I moved and was very familiar with the team, perhaps, but no longer. Of the current squad I've only seen Collins and Monkhouse and a couple of televised games and of course highlights which are just that and not representative.

Saturday morning at Blackhall the Youth team played Doncaster Rovers.
I had planned on going along to support the boys, but had a change of plan.

Have you thought about these matches as you say away games are hard for you ?

It finished 5-5 and would have been a belter of a write up for you.

Enjoy and carry on doing what you are doing as its all a learning curve.

Have you contacted the club at all, as they may be able to provide you with a space in the press box
providing they have available spaces possibly a Tuesday night match may not be a full as a Saturday game .

Anyway good luck .

I was disappointed too. Pretty hopeless game, couple of chances during a brief good spell in the 2nd half but they poked it upfield and scored again to put paid to that :( To be fair, Newport should have been 4 up at half-time.
Poole stood out as someone keen to get on with it. At one point it was just goalie to goalie and extended halfway line head tennis. If we had sneakd one it could have turned the game around, but... Not massively impressed with Newport, we didn't really test them.
The carry-on getting tickets for behind the goal was unbelievable... Felt really sorry for the poor buggers who wouldn't be home in 30 minutes like we were.
Always massively impressed by the crackpots who live in the town and still get to places like Newport and Hereford. I couldn't do it.

No, this jammy get had a lift and was home by 10.10, in pub by 10.30. Tidy, like.

Newport town centre isn't too friendly on a night-time, glad we could make a quick getaway.

The weekend was saved by going to the Wales Argentina rugby on Saturday - one of the most enjoyable games I've been to
