If this bloke knows anything at all about betting, and by staking £100 I would guess he probably does, he would know that the odds he was offered were so far removed from what he was expecting to get that he thought he would "try it on" and he has come unstuck. It's in every bookmakers rules somewhere that the onus is on the punter to get the correct odds and odds given in error will be settled at the correct ones. As I said, it looks to me like he was trying to get one over on them.

To be fair he probably knew they were high/wrong as he double checked with the shop worker and also said he staked more because it was such a good price, so yeah he had a fair idea. I'd have done exactly the same except I wouldn't quibble when they wouldn't pay out and run to the papers.

Cant you be out of work and not have some savings.Im probably wrong but you are allowed 6000-8000 in savings and you can claim the dole
