You can say what you like about the club and team but when when it comes to people they're pretty decent.

They kindly given permission for my 11 year son and a couple of his mates to raise money for Leukaemia Research in the form of buckets in which you can deposit some loose change.

Many of you will know my son was 8 when he was diagnosed back in Feb 11. After 9 months intensive treatment, two episodes of hair loss, countless attacks of the munchies and about 40 units of blood he went on to maintenance which means daily (2 tablets) chemo, weekly (10 tablets every wednesday) chemo and monthly (RVI visit for a shot) chemo and quarterly (in theatre, injected into base of spine) chemo. As well as this he has a five day course of roids once a month and twice a week he needs anti bacterial tablets.

The reason he is on such a mixture is due to the research that the charity funds. If diagnosed now it would be a different regime as analysis has shown treatment with less side affects. The side affects are awful. Mood swings, violence (i take the brunt of it), food fads, hungry 24/7 post roids, sleeplessness, sleepy, leg ache, bone ache.etc... And he still comes to pools when he can.

if you see him or his mates before the kick off and you can spare a bit of loose change please do so., my employers will double anything raised up to the value of £350 as well, so whatever you can drop in, will be doubled.

We expect Charlie to finish his treatment in the middle of April next year and i will have a HUGE drink when he does, he wants a Stella himself and he deserves it. Despite him nbeing "fine" as he always says, he has lost many friends (ie other sufferers) and the research needs to continue so that the losses are driven down.

Small Change, Big Impact.

If you wnant to give but wish to do so in a different way then a friend is doing some race for the chsirty -

Cheers Pools and cheers for reading it.

They should support all research into cancer etc they should ensure that our kids are not worried about the financial cost of getting the education they need but they'd rather bail out their mates in the banks..

Not just cancer they should be funding more, there's scores more illnesses/disabilities that affect kids. What annoys me slightly (and I'm not a bigot) is that we'll fund aid overseas for support for aids, polio and other diseases etc but 000s of kids are suffering over here.

When Our Liv was diagnosed 17 years ago, they reckoned they were 10 years from finding a "cure" for Muscular Dystrophy. When I see UK money being spent abroad it makes my blood boil. Still no cure of course...

Will seek Charlie and his pals out on Saturday Katcha!

It's down to money Phil .Its a sad fact of life that .there's no money in finding a cure for problem only a few have..theyd rather find an anti fat bastard pill or aids as there's more cash in it..Plus when big pharma do find drugs that help they price so Highly to "recoup" their investment .. It's criminal..

Will take an extra few quid for the buckets, or do without a bovril, pie and lottery ticket if I forget.

I wasted 6 years of my life in the pharmaceutical industry working with completely mercenary damned bounders who would sell their own granny if it got them a house with another spare bedroom in it.

It boils my piss how much the NHS have to spend on their wares.

Interesting Mr Pin my daughter studying pharmaceutical and organic chemistry at Newcastle Uni. Her real dream is to be a vet.. ..I'd love her to go on and help develop cures for this and that but from what you say I'm sure she's probably better off following her dream.

Aye, you don't have to read very far to see how much pharma practice is based on dodgy data and on concealing inconvenient results. Trouble is, the industry is so huge and has such an international grip, no nation state can hope to restrain it.
