I recently got into Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazelwood duets.

Very dark. Subject matter includes infidelity, suicide, orphans, stillbirth, robbery, rejection, and death. Lots of it sung to quite uplifting music though, which flummoxes you a bit.

Don't Fear The Reaper is probably the song everyone associates them with, but they've been much more musically diverse on vinyl over the years. Cultosaurus Erectus is the cd we had on going to Wycombe Mutt (1980)

I guess if Vauxhall can use the Fall's 'Touch Sensitive' & Mazda Hawkwind's Silver Machine there's no hope left for artistic integrity. Oh well we all have to eat I suppose - just off to shop at Tesco seeing how it's endorsed by Camera Obscura.

Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band did an advert for tv in the states - it was for their album Lick My Decals Off Baby.
Another of my all time favourites - The Cocteau Twins were used for a tv advert for a soft fruit drink in the 80's - Fruitopia I think.
I suppose the (only?) benefit of using a little known bands number is that people may hear it, investigate further and then listen to the band possibly buying albums or going to gigs.
Chip - what was the Field Mice track?

That is an excellent album - an excellent band - Roger Chapman's voice is unique. I used to see them regularly in the - let's just say a very long time ago.
My favourite tracks are the Weavers Answer & How Hi the Li.
Chapman still gigs - mainly in Germany and mainly doing Blues standards. A friend of mine was his roadie & keeps in touch with him.

John Peel was a big fan of theirs & was often at their gigs. Have you read Groupie by Jenny Fabian? That was (allegedly) about them and her. I've got 2 Chapman / Whitney Streetwalkers albums - the band they formed after Family split, one on red vinyl.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Family Entertainment is the only album I've ever bought THREE TIMES.

I've got the bastid on MP3 now though haven't I so I won't be buying it again!

Did America just do a rolling medley of their hits, Horse with no name and Ventura Highway? They're the only records of theirs I can remember anyway. I've Ventura Highway playing on YouTube in the background as I listen to this. Think I'll go in search of some Family now,

I have just been in my loft and found 3 locked record boxes behind the water tank, after doing a quick lock pick there are maybe 100 albums of what I think are 70's & 80's rock.

The one that I am looking at and would like info from Mr ECG is a album from a dodgy looking geezer called Ray Gomez, it has a track called "summer in the city". I would like to know a) is he the original artist of the track, b) is it his version that is getting used on the TV adverts at the moment.

There is an album with a class title "For Girls Who grow Plump in the Night" by Caravan and about 12 albums by Rush now I know where Darkness got the sqeaky voice idea from.

What about the voice of Geddy Lee, how did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy. :sweeeet:

I have just googled Rush to coin a phrase, it claims that Geddy Lee is a bassist and even goes on to say he is in the top 20 in the world, but thats one guy's opinion.

I am guessing that the squeaky voice comes from wearing a G string 5 sizes too small

They must be doing something right as they are still going after 30 odd years and they look older than God.

Some more odd named groups in the boxes are Ethel The Frog, Toad the Wet Sproket, Budgie & Zebra I think there is a theme going on here.

Groups I know off include Hawkwind, ELO, 801.

Not as far as I can see, they have only ever had one line up change and that was the drummer changed after the 1st album, Neil Peart took over froim John Rutsey.

It looks like the drummer plays keyboards.

Rush had no keyboards on their first three/four LP's, Geddy Lee is indeed an amazing bass player. It'll be the live performances of recent years you're referring to Elvis. However he still performs the on -stage lead guitar vs bass guitar battle with Alex Lifeson during By-Tor and the Snow Dog!!! A lot of the numbers "live" don't require the keyboards anyway, and Geddy really does the business on the bass!!!!!

I have just played the 1st 4 albums and the verdict from me is 2112 - very good, Passage to Bangkok best track, Closer to the heart nice track that all heavy rockers seem to do so well.

Rush - Rush very heavy & very good
Fly by night ok Bytor good track
Caress of steel very poor but Bastille Day is class

Thanks for the advice lads.

I went to see Budgie a few times with this man!

Caravan are excellent on record & live, in the land of the grey & pink is their best - they've been gigging quite recently. I remember Toad the Wet Sproket as well. And speaking of Budgie - I fell asleep at one of their gigs although I do like them, I must have been tired. They're also still gigging.

The Blue Aeroplanes are definately one of my all time favourites - used to be so good live, a couple of numbers sounded like Hawkwind. PJ Harvey is on one of their albums that I've got.
Mind, they're banned for the next couple of weeks as they are from Bristol.

I saw them a couple of weeks ago, the first time since the early 70's. Still very good with excellent tunes and words.
Peter Hamill now resembles Father Ted so we found it a bit difficult to take it all so seriously as we once did.
The album is live & recorded a couple of years back.

How's this for a review eh....

"The Aggrolites sound and musical influence can best be summed up as late 60's Jamaican Reggae (Skinhead Reggae), recognizable to reggae fans into Upsetters, Hot Rod Allstars, Jackie Mittoo, Chrystalites. Studio One reggae bands.
Their music is heavily mixed with American soul and funk and influenced by The Meters, James Brown and Wilson Picket."

Probably my loss but I just don't get Coltrane. Five minutes and I have to change to someone I can get my head round.
