..... gave the nearside colour coded bumper and wing a sort of ploughed field effect.... "It sort of went into the gate post as I pulled off the drive" she said as though the car and gatepost conspired to do it
I take a rajjy in the car park as she pulls up when I see it and she says..." a bit of that blue paint stuff from Halfords should sort it out"... I RANT A BIT MORE.... at this point, any 'normal' woman would use her feminine talents and try to defuse the situation, not in this case, ... we get in the car and drive off and she sits silently and decides the best form of defence is attack and after several minutes of furious thought blurts out..." I suppose you've never scraped a car smart arse?" ...pause....." actually...no!" I reply. "Are you sure about that?...what about the time one car was in the garage for 9 weeeks getting rebuilt?" Hmm, I thought about it and pointed out that the car was parked unoccupied in the road and a lorry drove into it as I stood in a shop and watched.... infuriated even more she spluttered "YES, BUT YOU HAD THE KEYS SO YOU WERE IN CHARGE OF IT!!"...I couldn't stop laughing..
The thing is, did she mean it or was it all a cunning plan to divert my attention..... confised NAH ,it's our lass, she meant it

She also claimed later that the reason the gatepost made intimate contact with the car, was because the previous person who had parked it on the drive had left the wheels 'turned at a funny angle' and when she came off the drive it took her by surprise. "So does that mean you're trying to blame me?" I asked....."Well I wouldn't put it past you" she said triumphantly. "0ne catch there" I replied..."YOU, dropped me off earlier and came to pick me up later on, so YOU parked the car with the wheels 'turned at a funny angle'" .................................................. With a straight face she said,"Oh, so it's all my fault then." ...Er ...YES!

I'm on Mrs Snowy's side here.
We used to live in a house with a very narrow drive which I prided myself on being able to swing into with great speed without colliding into anything. I'd been doing this for quite a while, gradually improving on me personal best, when one day my other half happened to see me from the window and hinted (!) that I should slow down a bit. Don't know why I took any notice as I don't usually, but next time I drove in I took it nice and carefully....... and promptly crashed into the gate post. So that was his fault, definitely

Yes, they do say when you've lived abroad for a while that you start to forget your native tongue

Ah but what remains deeply imprinted on the memory is that uniquely British, terrifying phenomenon.
