There is a woman commentating on the Fulham v blackburn match and it just doesn't sound right. I don't mean to sound sexist or owt like that though.

Women should be restricted to the kitchen, the bedroom, or be on their way between the two.

MotD will lose viewers by the millions with female commentators. No-one doubts the ability, but like has been said, it just isn't right. It's like a bloke giving advice on make up. Some things just don't cross the genders.

The funny thing is, all the pundits will toe the politically corect line, while in the background some of the viewers will just turn off or turn over. I love how how on Radio 5 (Radio Smug) they all speak highly of her 'huge knowledge' of the game ...everybody who watches football thinks they have a 'huge knowledge of the game' ...mind you, they would say that wouldn't they?

according to the papers this morning, the young lady in question plays football for a 'wimmins' team, drinks pints and therefore knows all there is to know about footy....... a ladette.

in other words, it definitely would NOT do to have a Julian Clary commentating on football - now that WOULD be "let's switch off our tv set and go and do something else instead"................

In all honesty. if the person commentating knows what they're going on about and sounds that way, I couldnt give a shite whether they're female or not. Plenty of males speak crap at the match.
You may view this as me being liberally leftie but I view it as wanting professionalism and knowledge.
If you look around pools and other grounds you will see plenty of females and if you want to stereotype you can say they probably know fuck all about football - but if they've followed it long enough they will know a good deal.
I do, however, think there is something in the thought that, if you have played football (at sunday league level or school level at the least) then it gives you a good understanding and insight into football other than watching premiership or champions league on telly, but then again I bet a lot of football commentators who sound knowledgeable havent so it cant be a necessity.

I think maybe sometimes the root of the problem is that if a female tries to sound authoritarian she just comes over as shrill. Ask most people who hated Thatcher why, and the answer isn't in a political context, it's 'cos she was a woman. It's the same with Margaret Becket and Germaine Greer.

I didnt like it either, but mainly cos it was a chance to be really different, but she just settled into generic commentator mode therefore sounding like a higher pitched john champion or whatever he's called.

new commentators all sound the same / say the same things and its crap

Well, anyway, I'm sick of the male/female debate.....especially as no-one has ever been known to change their opinion on the subject.

So who's on the at the Saltburn festival this year, Salty?

Sometimes go to individual concerts/sing arounds but never buy weekend tickets now. Last did that at Beverley in mid 80s .... Andy Irvine and Martin Carthy in one town :sweeeet:

Er, yes. At the time it was very polorised politcally andI had equal quantities of venom for Tebbitt and the rest of the loons. MilkSnatcher was so in yer face, so up for the scrap and so opinionated that the very mention of her still gets me narked. Not really sure about the female aspect to it, see your point tho.

As for the tart on Match of the Day - a fooking joke - "They all look like they are enjoying themselves in the sunshine" will go down as one of the most insightful footie comments ever made. Me drunken step son rang me from Leeds p*ssing himeself laughing and incensed at the same time - Quality
