According to the Mail Willie Boland from Cardiff a tough tackling central midfielder and Gary Liddle a youngun from the Borer who can play central midfield or wide right

nothing official on the Pools site yet but this is pinched from a smoggie on Rivals

you have signed him like someone said on a 2 an a half year deal, the reason he has signed for hartlepool is because they doubled his existing boro contract which he recently signed, which was for one year. he played in most of the pre-season friendlies at boro and was told that he wouldnt figure this season in southgates plans. proctor has been trying to get him to drlington for two years now but the hartlepool deal was too good to turn down, if darlington had matched the offer he would be there now as his best mate peacock is there and proctor knows him better than anyone. as for the player himself he is a very aggresive, competetive midfielder who has grown in stature the last few years and looks to be a very decent player. I would put him a long way ahead of kennedy at the boro and he would have had his chance no doubt when the likes of morrison and davies came through if it wasnt for the injury he suffered. the injury by the way was the fault of the coaching staff at boro playing him against medical advice. he is good in the air, two footed and a very tidy passer. i agree that a lot of footballers come from premiership level and fail in the lower leagues but I cant see this happening here, he is more than capable of playing in the championship even at this stage in his career. you have signed a very decent footballer with a great attitude and a lot of hunger to make up for lost time. good luck for the season

I like the sound of the lad from Cardiff, we need some steel in this team. I know I've been a critic of his but even the likes of Humphreys would would benefit from having someone like that around.

By the way, on the subject of that, my gripe with RH is nothing to do with defending Neale Cooper as was said to me the other day, its more about the unionisation of the dressing room which goes back to our 'this bus drives itself' days.

Anyway, no more to be said on that subject, onwards and upwards.

He is 31 years old so he may not be as mobile as he used to be but this may benefit the likes of Sweeney who can bomb forward when he sees fit knowing that he has a more than competent midfiled partner behind him.

at last, a manager who has recognised that our problems lie in the centre of the park!!!!!!! Defenders can only be put under so much pressure before the inevitable goals are conceded, and strikers can only live on scraps for so long before all the goals dry up (and let's face it it's about as dry as the Sahara desert right now).
"Midfielders - take us to the oasis of goalscoring, and put pressure on the opposition with staunch play in the centre of the field, crunching tackles and accurate passing"!!!!!!!!
