From everybodies favourite rumours site:
"24 May 2013 14:13:38
New Hartlepool manager, Colin Cooper is to raid his former employers, Middlesbrough. It's believed he has agreed to blood Boro's academy lads with a steady conveyorbelt of talent leaving for short term loan deals. His first three players will be Curtis Main, Luke Williams and Jordon Jones. Main and Williams on a month deal, Jones on a three month deal. Any players close to Boro's first team squad will be given several games in league two to toughen them up. It's hoped the deal will benefit both clubs as any players that shine will have the loan extended. "

Difference is hear this is likely Main and Williams would be lethal in L2, don't know about Jones?
Would love to see Adam Reach on loan. I believe Boro's Under 21's are playing their home games at the Vic so I'd expect us to be the first call for loans-can only benefit both clubs if this happens?

Didn't Main end up with a decent run in the Boro first team last season.

He did Bob, did ok, got injured and on a long layoff-could see Main in for the first month to prove his fitness and would expect he'd get a bagful in L2.
Another promising youngster from Boro, Bryn Morris who is from Hartlepool- I'd expect Cooper to leave Boro on good terms and given our lack of cash I think a few loans would do us no harm-as long as they're better than Wyke!

Rather have a settled side than loaning a boat load of players off the boro that are here for a month or so each time then disappear

Cooper and Hignett will have loads of contacts all over the country both were very good well respected players in the top two divisions.

I really can't see us just signing a load of kids from the Boro, it's a big opportunity for them both and they might not get another one so the ones they do bring hopefully will be good! But we won't just sign Boro players, especially ones who play first team football like Main. Plus I'm both have enough off to realise the Boro are shite.

Bryn morris is a outstanding up and coming youngun, i know the kid played with his brother. Sure he's been captain of the england youth, could be good for us. But worry for his confidence if hings in the team artnt going well.

Hartlepool lad as well isn't he?

Surely the obvious one to link now is Dolan. He and his parents are surely keener for him to play here under the new set up.

Good shout PJ, many on hear don't relish loan players Dolan has tasted success with Yeovil, maybe Cooper can convince him we can be the Yeovil of the north. Realistically loans can complement the side-the carrot is places on Boro's first team. Having seen Adam Reach several times for Boro an reserves he'd be great on our left wing. I sure hope Cooper's appointment gives renewed confidence and credability we have lacked for so long.

So how many loan players do people think would be OK without any detriment to Pools own squad? 2? 3? 4? none?

To be honest I don't think there is a number to be put on it. If we think they can improve us and its economically viable, bring them in. It can't be anymore detrimental to the squad than playing the old knackers week in week out.

I think so but no idea what it is, there is certainly a number that can start I think.

I was thinking more on the lines of blooding other clubs' youths instead of ours.

Loans are limited from other English clubs. So can only have so many season long loans (I think it's two ) then about eight short term loans over the season. Only five could ever be in a match day 18.

However no rules are in place to limit loans from foreign club, which is how Watford got away with loaning about 16 Udanese players last season!

I wouldn't want us bringing in a load of loan players to be honest, for all the players we've loaned over the years you can count on one hand the ones who've made any impact and three of those are keepers!

I'd rather he scouted the free transfer market and we brought in some that would be contracted to the club.

One or two maybe if that fails.

Oh I agree but if we can bring in players that are better than what we have an they aren't going to cost us anything then I say get as many as possible. We need to blood our own yes and probably need to find that balance. Hasn't done Yeovil an harm though who by all accounts have binned their youth setup??

We can't afford to build a quality squad so abusing the loan market is key to any success

Our record in having a strategy for using loan players in the past has been poor. Its tended to be an emergency thing where we've had to totally rely upon a young striker coming in and scoring goals. Sometimes its worked, other times not. What we have never planned for is bringing in youngsters on season long loans. To my mind there are a few approaches

1. sign up some of those that get dropped by the big(ish) 3 and others and see if they will flourish at our level. If they make it we have a valuable player.
2. bring in and develop other club's youngsters on a season long loan. We get medium term benefits. The Yeovil/Watford approach.
3. bring in short term loans. Might be a spectacular short term success but could disrupt the team and hinder the development of others.
4. develop our own youngsters. The Crewe approach.

The challenge for the new management team is to get this right and the challenge for the Board is to support them in what they want to do.

We can afford it if we stop throwing daft wages about on the likes of Howard or the year before solano

Curtis main doing the business in L2. :o couldn't do it in the conference. Don't rate him at all. Reach's head goes down if it doesn't go his way. Both Darlo rejects!

if the short -ish term answer is to utilise the loan market until we can re-establish a much better youth set up - which will hopefully eventually be robust enough to consistently feed players into the first team - then we have to do it

He couldn't do it in the Conference? He was about 18 wasn't he and in the same season as being released by a average team at that level played Championship football.

I think that says far more about Darlington and the non league Tony Pulis managing at the time than it does about the kid Main.
