What a boring game so far. Two crap teams to be honest, one good hance fell to wyke but gk made a great save. Can't see there being more than 1 goal in this

On the positive side, we kept our first league clean sheet since 1st September.

Dreadful game. Second half was pretty much just hartley booting the ball upfield or out of play. Nowhere near as much effort or commitment as the notts game. Can only remember us testing their gk once. Baldwin best player on the field by a country mile.

we kept a clean sheet cos they were unbelievably crap...

I think we'll get more chances against Orient cos they'll come for the win and won't put all their outfield players in their own penalty box for the majority of the game

On the down side if Pools don't know how to break down a team like that, then there is a hell of a lot of work to do in training

What we needed tonight was someone like Steve Howard upfront with some decisive, penetrative running from midfield of say a Tony Sweeney. Hopefully Hughes will see this and rush them back for the next game

After 70 minutes I was wishing Steve was on the bench cos all Hartley and horwood were doing were launching high balls. I don't blame them in a way as we werent getting far by trying to pass it to be fair

I think the Orient game will be more open for players like Poole and Franks to find more space, but they will learn from games like this against opponents who set out to frustrate them

Having said that they must be the first team to come with a game plan of containing Pools !!!!!!! How bad must they be to do that!!!!

But Pools didn't know how to go about it!!!

If I had hair, I would have stayed at home and washed it rather than endure that crock of brown stuff, why do Managers not change things earlier than the 60th minute when it`s obvious we are on the road to nowhere banghead

The best bit of tonight was remembering I had a mars bar in my pocket after 70 minutes

To be fair it was going to be hard for any team to break that down. They camped everyone behind the ball hoping not to break that consecutive loss record and did a decent job. We've only managed to do well recently against teams that have gone forward thinking we'd be a walkover, we don't have the players to work through a brick wall.

We only looked like getting anywhere towards the end when we started lumping it into the box, even then we nearly got done on the counter when one of theirs decided to pass the ball to the rink end for a laugh.

A fair result in all between 2 teams scared to go for it when in reality neither of us should be scared of going for it as we're both going down.

We were fuppin awful tonight, couldn't retain possession for more than 5 seconds, if I was a Portsmouth fan I'd be disappointed they didn't win, good point in the end.

It was a dreadful performance. The only positive being baldwin who is far and away better than the rest despite his age. I hope for his sake that he leaves to find a club who can coach him properly.

I don't understand why it took until 75 minutes for us to start pushing them, we should have done it from the off.

Franks grafts but is short on confidence, Austin doesn't get forward enough where Horwood gets forward well but is piss weak going back, Wyke is going to be a good player but Poole and Franks weren't close enough to him often enough to make an impact and Walton seemed wasted tonight his strength seems to be slowing the game down and picking a pass but he was so deep the only passes available to him were backwards or hoof it.

Baldwin looked a class act tonight and I hope we get to see him play a season at centre back before he moves on, but had I turned up at the vic tonight knowing nothing about Pools I'd have been convinced he was a midfielder on loan from a top side not a central defender picked up from an amateur side.

Baldwin looked superb last night and deserved that shot to go in, I though Walton didn't really do anything wrong last night and had a good game.

Credit to the pompey fans, 280 on a Tuesday night is fantastic support

Also, I reckon Wyke should have been taken off for James.. not Franks.

Let me get this right. You wanted Howard to come off the bench, the big bloke, yes? But at the same time you would have taken off our next biggest player and replaced him with one of the smallest, and leave another small one on?

Do your sunday league get confused by your tactics sometimes?

Let me get this right... Howard wasn't even on the bench, I only stated we could have done with Howard on to try something new... This was never ever an option to bring him on.. I thought Wyke should have went off instead is because Franks has pace and thought offered more to the game than Wyke.

New...? .....hmmmm, does he do 'new' ...? I always thought he stuck strictly to the lumbering supertanker of the goalmouth style of play, slow to respond, going nowhere fast and avoid getting in the way of if on a collision course.

Obviously I meant in last nights game.. We couldn't seem to break them down by passing... It was a mere suggestion/opinion on the matter, nobody will ever know if hoofing up to Howard might have worked last night, based on his previous record probably not, was just being a bit optimistic

I think it is a tactic we need to consider. I remember a few years ago when we had Richie Barker upfront, he was less effective when he started, but he often changed the game when he came on with time left. A home game at Port Vale sticks in my memory.

Now I haven't seen much of Howard to compare, but sometimes having something different on the bench works.

A home game at Port Vale probably would stick in the memory like. bbolt
