SO WE DIDN'T 'F**K AROUND' AFTER PHIL 'TANGO BROWN' SPAT HIS DUMMY OUT....like others say, it was probably that PB couldnt bring Brian Horton in, h had to ave Barron.....BIZARRE IF TRUE.
"Hartlepool United are delighted to announce the appointment of John Hughes as the new First Team Coach at Victoria Park.
The 48-year-old has management experience at the highest level in Scotland having guided Falkirk to the Scottish Premier League in 2005 and led Hibernian to Europa League qualification in 2009.
A former central defender, Hughes played for a host of clubs in Scotland including Celtic, Falkirk and Hibernian, while he also played in the English leagues with Swansea City in the late 1980s.
Hughes has left his role as Manager of Livingston to take up the challenge at The Vic and will be in charge for the first time this weekend when Pools host Coventry City.
"We're convinced we've got the right man in place to take the Club forward," Chief Executive Russ Green commented.
"Everybody knows that this appointment was a crucial one for the Club so we have taken our time, assessed our options and John is the choice we are all extremely happy with.
"He has a vision for the Football Club, he has a passion and a drive to succeed and we hope that the fans will be as excited as we have to have him in place."
Micky Barron is to remain in his role as Reserve Team Manager and will work alongside Hughes in the new set-u
We'll have more reaction to the appointment here on the Official Website on Wednesday morning."

I think this appointment with Barron staying proves that it was over backroom staff for Brown

How does it?

How do you know Brown was as close to getting it as he was having everybody believe?

Hughes was employed elsewhere, was a deal with his club done in the quarter hour since Brown's dummy came out in the media?

I don't know, but I'm not jumping to conclusions either.

FFS, in a lot of respects though this is close to the 'worst case scenario' people didn't want on here (well, besides Barron getting the job). If this has fallen down because Brown didn't want him on board and Ken or whoever did, it's an absolute joke. The fact that this was aired publicly in the national media is criminal.

That said... i wish him well.

More conclusion jumping.

Is there a conclusion jumping competition taking place that I'm not aware of?

There is a possibility that you've all been played by Brown along with the media while he put himself in the news to try and get what he considers to be a better job.

Yeah my bet is down. That i can deal with. Brown MAY have played us like an old violin, you could well be right. However, the fact remains that there are HUNDREDS of messages all over this board (from loads of people) calling for the breaking up of the 'old boy network', yet as i see it, it's just been strengthened.

Craig Hope a obviously spoken to Phil Brown as he's just Tweeted that the breakdown was contractual, more specifically a clause in his contract.

No mention of backroom staff.

Keep going mental based on assumptions though everyone....

Good luck John Hughes you get my 100% support but you will need to be probably the best manager this club has ever had to sort this shit out with the same coaches and players who got us into the clart.

This will be interesting to watch on Saturday... (from Hope's article above, speaking of Phil Brown)

Quote:
He is sure to be afforded a rapturous welcome from supporters who had named him as their preferred choice of manager.

So now that 'rapturous welcome', judging by the general mood on here, will be at best 'indifferent', mixed up with a genuine feeling of resentment that Barron is still involved, and not just involved but involved in a major way.

What the hell is Hodcroft doing? ,had 2 ex premiere league managers ready to come in and he goes and blows it.An ideal opportunity to get rid of that useless Micky Barron who couldn`t coach shit and then tells us he is staying on to work with John Huges.Again our chairman has gone for the cheapest option. As a long time fan I am totally pissed off along with every other true Pools fan.Our chairman needs to get us a team worth supporting ,but we all know, it will be the same crap from the same crap players followed by relegation.

Welcome Mr Hughes, you will get my complete support. Just a word of warning though, if you dont get a win on saturday you can expect to feel the full wrath of the Bunker Mafia as it seems you have already been written off by the ultra knowledgable pundits on this board. Bring it on John.

I'm obviously not a true Pools fan then, cos I'm not pissed off. I remember the last time we appointed a Scot no-one knew and that worked out OK (granted he had a better base to work with).

I don't buy why everyone assumes that Brown would be a good manager, without a lot of money to spend (and there won't be). Similar puzzlement when everyone seems to assume Alan Shearer will be a good manager because he was a good player (very few start players make top managers).

I honestly think that Brown's proclamations to the media yesterday might have scuppered him. Pools never confirmed anything, it's not the way they operate, and Brown's ever-increasing media profile might have just rubbed them up the wrong way.

I suggest we give the new gadgey a chance, he has a solid record behind him, but I suspect there will be limited funds available for wages (perhaps a couple of judicious Jock signings might cost less wages-wise), but as things stand if he gets us anywhere near 50 points I'll back him, even if we do go down.

reading the Livingston message board it seems to be a 50/50 split on who is bothered he's left and who isn't. There does seem to be a large indication that he likes to implement a possession/passing game though!!!!

I'm astounded that so many people were happy to have a self publicising orange cock in charge of Pools but regard a reasonably successful manager from Scotland as shite without giving him a chance. Brown announced his own cockness on national TV by using Hull's relegation campaign to make himself look like Billy Big Bollocks but you still don't accept it. He confirmed it by the way he has behaved during contract negotiations with Pools and I sincerely hope we fucked him off because of his blabbering. Everybody says they hate the premiership but the last bit of remaining lustre from his time there got lots of people believing he was some sort of messiah.

I say good luck to John Hughes, I've got no reason to believe he is a cock and he might turn out to be an excellent appointment.
