Anyne else using that Sh1t bag broadband provider Sky Broadband.
I've got the Netgear WG111t wireless adaptor and Sky's standard broadband router but the whole system keeps cutting out, or needs rebooting or shuttting down or resetting or all of the above.

I'm no techie but wonder if its just me, Sky Broadband in general or if there's owt I can do

Hi mate

It's not just you. There are a great many people having similar problems with Sky.

I have recently switched Tv/Phone/Broadbandfrom VigrinMedia after they stopped showing Sky One.

Now, I had been preparing myself for the worst as I had read lots of bad things about Sky Broadband. (I only saw these after I had subscribed). My router arrived last week. I managed to get things set-up fine which I was chuffed with.

However, my mate (who is a flippin web designer and very IT literate) had a terrible time when he made the same switch to Sky.

I can't offer any solutions I'm afraid. Get yourself online at a mates and do a Google search on the subject. There are quite a few sites with forums etc. that might be able to help.

Good luck man.

I switched to Sky about 4 weeks ago, and for about two weeks got regular slowdowns and freezes. Check the forum on this site http://www.skyuser.co.uk/
Just reset the router, if you haven't changed any of the settings, it can be managed on http://192.168.0.1, with the username and password of admin and sky.
Mine has now settled down and I'm getting at least 10mb for only £10 a month, where before I was paying £22 for about 5mb!

the problem with sky'a netgears is that they actually configure them themsleves as far as i can gather and therefore it's very tricky to sort out if you try to do a factory reset (the soft button the reverse) as you may need username and password to configure (which with netgear should be admin and passowrd) but sky may have put different ones in or even made a typo!!!

It also depends on what 'profile' your exchange is showing - i dont know about sky broadband but i woudl safely guess it is offering no more than 2 Meg down a BT line. If your connection is regularly dropping then rebuilding get in touch with SKY let them know that you are having an intermittent connection and for god sake save your self some time and tell them that you have changed your filter, running from main socket, no extensions, not wireless etc so that they can run a check along BT's line and get a fault raised to BT to investigate your error.

It could be that he router is genuinely shorting but you may to able to test thi sby using a different router on your line.

same goes for the orange thing - dont stand for it get on the phone and dont let them fob you off. - if orange are offering 8-16-24M it could well be an issue relating to the profile in their equipment in the exchange which will need amending to suit the speed your line is capable of holding in relation to it's length and ensuring that it has a decent sound margin of i would state dB - this can vary between and 31 - but anything above aint really needed and anything below and including 10dB will cause your signal to drop regularly........

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sorry
