Decides to persist with Lampard and Gerrard together and instead drops the only player who came out of the game with Israel with any credit.

Quote:
Owen Hargreaves could be relegated to the bench for England's Euro 2008 qualifier against little Andorra on Wednesday night.

The Bayern Munich midfielder was one of the few England players to impress in the dire goalless draw with Israel in Tel Aviv on Saturday night.

But under-fire Steve McClaren is reportedly planning to drop Hargreaves for the Group E clash in Barcelona and will instead give Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard one more chance to gel in central midfield.

Lampard, who was doubtful after being struck by a shot from Wayne Rooney during training on Monday, has come under fire for his tepid performances at international level recently.

But McClaren and skipper John Terry both have faith that Lamps will soon rediscover his form and he will have no better opportunity than against the Group E minnows.

McClaren will also draft Stewart Downing in on the left flank while Aaron Lennon will move over to the right wing despite also catching the eye against the Israelis on the left side.

Ashley Cole returns from suspension and is expected to replace Jamie Carragher at left-back, while Phil Neville is also likely to give way to Micah Richards on the right side of defence.

Wayne Rooney is set to retain his place in McClaren's starting line-up as well, with Jermain Defoe to be given the chance to partner the goal-shy striker in place of Andy Johnson.

England are shit. The last time England were any good was Euro96, and before that Italia 90 when we WERE the best team in the world, except for Peter Shilton  rage

Certainly is, But thats what Mclaren & Sven has done to the national team

I think Lampard being injured is a blessing in disguise, Not a fan of Frank "Lumpard" all he seems to do is shoot and pass it square

Stevey G in the Middle & Lennon on the right (Where he should have been on Saturday)

Plenty of flare & goals tonight, Which unfortunatley will save Mclaren until June when we play next

I'm not unpatriotic or anything, but does anyone else think that Euro 2008 might be more interesting if England don't qualify?

You won't get all the bullshit media hype, all the 'fans' that crawl out of the woodwork, and frigging McDonalds and coke adverts on telly all the time.

I would love England to win it, but I don't think it's remotely possible with McLaren in charge.

i was talking to a couple of lads who like a bet on saturday morning and one of them reckoned england at 4/5 were a fantastic bet to beat israel. i laughed so much a small amount of wee wee came out.

i pointed out that he could actually get better odds on a proper team ( pools ) beating a poor team if he waited till the sunday. i also pointed out that if we was determined to have a bet on the england match he should ask for a price on wayne "mammys boy" rooney getting booked.

andorra have one proffesional footballer. i believe he plays for some team in the spanish second division. its a bit like watching england play peterlee. there must be something else on surely ?

The rest of your 'tips' did nowt tho Chip, it was a very poor world cup and England werent the pooreset by any stretch

Not that it makes any difference in the bigger scheme of footballing things

i backed italy portugal and argentina each way talbot. look up the thread if you dont believe me. then look up the result. portugal placed at 40/1 and italy won it at 14/1. serious profit.

i also said that anyone backing england at 7/1 to win the world cup wanted their head examining and that at double the odds ( 14/1 ) hartlepool to win division 2 was an each way steal as they could not fail to be out of the first 3.

oh and rooney got booked again tonight. if he didnt play for man utd he would get sent off 5 times a season.

Well Done, however it was a cack world cup and Italy werent the best team were they?

And youre right about Rooney, I blame Fergie, he is a turd

heres a couple of questions for yous.

if english players were paid nowt for representing their country do you think they would all turn up ?

would england have had more joy tonight if they had switched to a 2-3-5 formation ?

Q.1 - Not a chance....all's what they think about is money and material goods!!!!
Next friendly pick the squad from the Championship and below and see the difference!!!!

Q.2 - Exactly what I said to our kid!!!! I didn't even realise Ferdinand was playing until about the 85th minute....what is the point of having 4 at the back against part-timers who have 11 behind the ball!!!! confised stpid

Am I the only one who thinks that Pools could have played Andorra tonight and got a better result? Even if we had to drop Dimi & Effion, and bring in Jim Provett & David Foley to make it an all English team.

Agree. Even Darlow would have beat Andorra more convincingly.

Most over-rated player in world football anyone?

I have had people tell me in all seriousness that this lad is the best player in the world. I have never seen him get hold of an international midfield and dominate it, he isn't good enough. The footballing equivalent of Graeme Hick.

I totally agree, the lad has bags of passion but doesn't have the posistional discipline to cut it at the highest level.

The entire problem with England is this FIFA coaching badge bollocks that they insist on if you want to manage in the Premiership. It's football by numbers. Look what happened when Scotty tried it at Hartlepool, it takes all the ingenuity and flair out of the game and you know exactly what the opposition is going to do if they're English. All you have to do is read the same book. That's why football below the Premiership is much better.

Maclaren to me is the Scotty of England and inspires the same emotions in me..... we're just marking time till he goes. the qualifications for the England job..... ? you look good in a blazer

....anyway, I've got a much better and more precious team occupying my thoughts at present.

the flair teams such as Brazil and Argentina, France etc will generally come out on top in these competitions. History shows it. The only exception to this are the Germans, who are so ultra-efficient they are almost not human. They are a one-off though, and the other World Cup Winners had that something different about them (although you could always argue Italy played more like the typical Germans in the last World Cup)!!!!
Be honest, you'd rather watch Brazil v Argentina as a footballing spectacle, rather than anything involving McLaren's England. I certainly won't watch them again while he's in charge.
