There has been a FORUM set up for the loonies that inhabit this board and Rivals.net

The problem you have is always going to be traffic also that you have used free forum hosting.

The Bunker took off because of the moment in time that it was launched - ie when 'The Monkey Hangers' board was unceremoniously shut. At that point two boards sprang up; this one and the HUFC 2005. You have recreated something that looks a little like the Bunker but without the traffic. Why?

Others have tried such as Hangems board which was a great looking board but for reasons known to no one it never really took off in terms of traffic.

The issue with a free board is that you have no control. You can't even do a backup - try it. Also you are very limited in the templates that you can use with phpBB. Do you have access to the various files through FTP for example? if not then you can't alter anything.

Your board offers nothing that is not already available so why should people switch. Good luck and all that but its doomed I'm afraid.

Mr. I - im not asking people to switch, just have a look and contribute a little. A little not much just a little.

I'm not computer savvy but it seems to do what I want it to do - post messages and somewhere that could potentially be used for a [place for friendly banter!!!!

Harsh but I'd have said something similar.

Chin's best bet is too round up everyone he knows and pay them for a few weeks for posting. Then it will take off. :wink:

Trust me mate, if you're going to run a PHPBB forum then you need to get 'savvy' with SQL and PHP and quick because when it goes down (and it will) its your job to fix it. In the past I have lost entire weekends fixing the board when it was corrupted.

By the way, some of the fixes are not in the least bit obvious. For example and Mr Gigha will back me up here. Mr G runs a board for his community but he had a problem in that nobody could attach an avatar. It wasn't fixable in the configuration panel so where do you go then? The answer was that an obscure file deep in the SQL database was set to read only.

It was only through all the pain and heartache I've been through with this board that I was able to tell him. On another occasion we had a problem and it took a combination of myself and Mad John (a genius) along with two or three days to suss out the problem.

By all means have a go but if you're going to do it I would certainly advise against a free board. The adverts are a turn off.
