@darlo_tyke: So the Hartlepool team bus has broken down on the motorway.... Shame it didn't crash.

Needs to get his facts right and a shameful thing to say when 3 people died on the M11!!

Someone ACTUALLY said, "it's a shame the team bus wasn't involved"

Whilst another chipped in, "the only excuse they would have is if they were involved in it!"

It just beggars belief. People lost their lives today.

The depths of human ignorance astounds me at times.

Who the fuck is Adamski!?

They should be awarded the points and our only excuse would be if the bus was actually involved in the crash!? Staggering stupidity and crassness.

To be fair, at least a few of their fans are bringing some balance.

Most have lost all perspective however.

Apparently the disappointment of missing a Saturday afternoon of football is tantamount to losing a loved one in an horrific crash.

Pricks.

One of the few sensible comments....

Re: GAME OFF

Postby oriboy » Sat Aug 25, 2012 5:38 pm
I walked away from the ground with some Hartlepool supporters who put it all in perspective when I said their journey was a waste of time, their reply was "at least we can go home tonight, someone involved in that accident isn`t"

Just about sums it all up for me.

Bless...they think they've missed out on 3 points ??
They'll have to play us now, later on - when we are RED HOT !
Silly 'little' Leyton Orient, and most of their fans are very ugly.

Some utterly embarrassing replies. I did think it was funny that they ended up exchanging Xbox name tags or whatever it's called. Sad fucks.

Also, If pools left at 1.30 today i'll eat my trainers

Since, as they admit, it takes an hour and a half to get to their ground from our hotel and we would normally have an hour or so prep time at the ground, we'd have to logically set off about 12:15 or so.

The accident occurred just after 11:00 so the chances of reports getting out about a snarl up due to an incident, coupled with the response of the police and other emergency services, means it would be unlikely that anyone would know about it until, maybe, 11:45 or so?

Now, unless our driver has his ear pressed to travel news 24/7, I'm not sure how he could have known about that or prepared for it. Nobody could surely guess the severity of this incident that early on.

At the end of the day, three poor people have lost their lives and their families will have to pick up the pieces of that horrific occurrence.

God bless all involved.

I'm sure it'll depend on the circumstances. I doubt we'll get too badly done for this one

This is the FA and us tho.

Is it true we were staying in peterborough? That's like an hour away?

personally I think Pools could get into hot water from the FA. They will say there were other games taking place in London so why could we not get there?
York were at Barnet for starters

Taking aside all the other stuff about the crash which is obviously tragic, but in the cold light of day Pools coach driver ought to have checked the travel news at some point, or have travel alerts sent to his phone or whatever, after all it's the coach company's business and it's really a minimum they should be doing on a company level and on an individual level.

Any fines given to Pools should immediately be pursued from the coach company in a law court

Every time I go to London the nearest I get by road is Stevenage and then take the train. Usually I go the whole way by train.
Before a judgement is made on whether Pools made every effort possible to get to the ground, all the relevant facts need to be examined.
Until all the facts emerge I am going to adopt a wait and see attitude.

I'm sure the F.A. will throw the book at us, deduct us 3 pts ....which will prove the mitigating factor in our end of season relegation fight, and not be well suited when it's replayed the same night as an England World Cup Qualifier.... therefore diverting half the nations interest away from the national side that night.

It seems there was pretty much constant communication between all parties involved.
If no one at Orient came up with the brilliant suggestion of turning off to catch the tube, maybe it wasn't such a briliant suggestion.

Given we play at Orient vitually every season I'm pretty sure they know how long it normally takes to get from the hotel to the ground.

Chip are you seriously suggesting that an acceptable alternative for an entire squad, with kit and equipment would be to travel to the match on the Tube?

Once they were on the M11 there is no way out and they have the law of the land on their side. Walking on the motorway is against the law. So they can't walk anywhere unless advised to do so by the Police. I can't see the Police advising a full entourage of footballers, complete with kit etc to tramp to the nearest exit. The Police will not evacuate a motorway unless there is imminent danger to life or limb and, as all photographs show, the traffic was stationary. Therefore the Police would tell everyone to stay with their vehicles.
If they were on the 406, where the accident apparently took place, then they could be asked why they didn't walk to the nearest tube etc, but once on the motorway it is a completely different scenario. The question could be asked why they went on the motorway in the first place, but that question will have to be answered by the driver or his employers.
As I say, we'll have to wait to see if the authorities decide they have a case to answer.

Ideal match preparation that. Piling on to London 's busiest tube line with kit and equipment or even better walking.

At least we'd have had an excuse for losing!

I think it's probably best to wait for all the facts to come to the surface from the referee, Pools and Orient. But if Pools did know about the traffic situation then why not travel by tube? Kit, boots drinks is about all they need. I would presume that as this is such a rare situation that there wasn't really a plan B..

Ivan Ash said on the radio at about 14:20 that there were also 2 LO players stuck in traffic. Did they get to the ground ?

Didn't boro once get deducted 3 pts for missing a game?? Different circumstances obviously but was it a pts loss?

If it's to be something I prey it's a fine and not points.

Yeah Jonny that is all a professional football club takes to an away game, kits, boots, and drinks.

We should have got the tube and played skins.

I said the busiest line Chip which the Central Line is.

They got deducted 3 points yeah but that was for refusing to play the match. Never known the FA deduct points for a matter like ours.

Although if Boro were clever they could have just set off late and broke down and avoided a point deduction and not been relegated?

Barnet once arrived late at the Vic, they claimed they thought it was a 745 KO and not 730 when we played night games at that time. The match was only delayed 15-30 minutes they were fined £5,000 by the FA. The circumstances are different here though.

Yes they may have overnight stuff, changes of clothes etc but surely that can be left in the coach and picked up after?

Apart from what I mentioned which fits into a bag, some basic first aid equipment (which LO will have anyway) what more would they need?

Like I said I will wait till all sides of the story come out but I don't think the tube is a ridiculous suggestion of transport to a match - you obviously do...

Pick the bones out of this League Regulation

31 Penalty for Non-Fulfilment of Fixture Obligations

31.1 Any Club failing to fulfil its fixture obligations in respect of any match under the jurisdiction of The League on the appointed date or dates or causing the Board to suspend any fixture shall be deemed guilty of misconduct, unless the circumstances giving rise to such failure are outside the control of the Club and could not have been reasonably foreseen or reasonably anticipated and remedied prior to the match. Every Club shall carry out regular and appropriate maintenance and checks to ensure that its safety certificate is not suspended or withdrawn.

31.2 The Club failing to fulfil its fixture or causing the Board to suspend such fixture shall be liable to pay compensation for any expenses actually incurred by the opposing Club as a direct result of the failure or suspension. The amount of compensation will be at the discretion of the Board who will consider every such case on its merits. The Board may refer the amount of compensation to be paid to the Football Disciplinary Commission appointed under Regulation 80 dealing with the misconduct by the Club failing to fulfil its fixture or causing the Board to suspend the same.

I'm not sure they stayed at the Marriot. Somebody mentioned to me that they have stayed there before, which is why I asked the question.
I think we've covered most of the bases but we'll just have to see who the FL want to exercise their muscles on, if anybody.

Don't know a great deal about coach companies etc but surely we request what time the driver picks the players up? If so will the coach company not say they fulfilled their side of the bargain and it was upto us to request it early because of traffic ?

Well , and I'm no lawyer but I reckon we can claim the circumstances were out of our control for 31:1.

Though for 31:2 as Orient will have to pay another Police/St John's ambulance Bill(off top my head) we may get hit with something there.

You accuse me of taliking shite then post that.

The coach and driver is with them, it has Pools badge all over it they travelled yesterday trained at Peterborough then went to the hotel which is in normal circumstances 20 minutes from the ground.

But people who weren't there and aren't aware of the dialogue and lines of communication between the two clubs obviously know better than those involved.
