Everybody ought to know by now that if England keep a clean sheet it's because they were either lucky or the opposition missed loads of sitters.
When Pools keep clean sheets the back five and the tenacious attitude of the people in front of the back five take the credit, the manager purrs over the clean sheet and the fans are happy. Although there are some people who will criticise a clean sheet. Those people usually have a small penis and are therefore used to failure.
People talk about the basics, ball retention, stringing myriads of passes together etc etc ad nauseam but the most obvious basics are, the team that keeps a clean sheet doesn't get beat and the team that scores the most goals FOR, generally wins, including penalty shoot outs.
If certain people on this board say today is Saturday, others will disagree and to be frank it's getting tedious. sadx

RB I agree the 'England are crap' thread title was over the top, however this is a completely different thread.

Hope this helps.

England overall did alright, better than many expected. On Sunday night we got a bit of lesson and were fortunate to draw. Derwent if Pools had kept a clean sheet like that I'd imagine most people would acknowledge we had rode our luck against better opposition. That's unless it was one of the small band of posters who are intent on saying exactly the opposite thing to me all the time

We were in a weak group, with all due respect to Sweden (population about 7 million) and Ukraine (ranked about 50th in the world) these are teams we should be beating. We were far from convincing in either game.

Italy are a very good team but lets not polish turd and pretend that England are better than what we are.

A weak group eh, strange that because France had been unbeaten for 20 odd games before going into the tournamanet and were one of the fancied teams.
Why should we be beating Sweden? We had never beaten them before, with better teams maybe, so why now?
We also had to get a result against host country Ukraine n their own back yard when they were desperate for a win.
Noone is saying England are world beaters, just that we actually got some decent results and were finally beaten by a very good team (only on pennas like).

I think my initial post says exactly why we should be beating Sweden and Ukraine. Just because they are hosts - it doesn't mean that they are any good. The Fifa rankings aren't the perfect guide but shouldn't England be able to go to most teams outside the top 20 and beat them - Ukraine weren't even in the top 50.

Italy were loads better than us....

I'm not saying that it means nothing - it just depends on which teams are involved. I would just expect England to comfortably beat a Ukraine home or away playing in fairly comfortable conditions. We did beat them just but the tournament was a still a poor tournament for England in my opinion....

So why are northern Ireland extremely hard to beat in there ground but easy at home if your rankings are to go by. All away games against teams like Ukraine are tough. If comfortable means extremely hostile then your right though

We weren't playing Russia away in the snow were we? If people want to think that England did ok because we topped one of the easiest groups we could of had then fair enough.

I don't know whether we are just getting worse or are we standing still as the rest of the world improves..?

How are we getting worse? Did you see the last two world cups? Are you aware of the fact that we didn't even qualify for the last european championship.

We are nowhere near where we want to be and any one who thinks we are in the same league as Spain is deluded, but all this hypercritical nonsense about how badly the England side did in this tournament is baffling.

That sums up the arrogance and ignorance of your typical armchair England fan, oh its only Ukraine 5-0 to the ingerland!

We have not been a world force in Football for nigh on 50 years, why do people think we can just turn up and expect other teams to drop their pants for us?

England weren't great at these championships because we're not great, but at least the players that were there played like they wanted to be there, and looked like they had some pride in wearing the shirt, and result wise at least had a decent tournament.

Of course we did badly, what games were you watching?

We have players there on between 50 and a 100 grand a week wages who CAN NOT pass more than five foot without losing the ball or string more than 4 passes together as a team.

Sit down, have a think about how much they earn as professional footballers and what they can actually do to justify earning that wage the come back and tell me they did ok at the Euro's.

Stroll on

the amount you earn doesnt equal the talent you have.

And at international level the wages dont come into it as they dont get paid.

Well they do but they give it away to charity.

So its hardly worth bringing that up.
