.....yeah, okay if you want to be gramitically correct, but we are piss-poor , we cannot even retain the ball for longer than 4 seconds f.f.s.

They got further than I thought they would.

Players on 50-100 grand a week and they can't pass a ball to a team mate.

How the fuck was Ashley Young on the pitch. Useless twonk.

We were light years behind Italy and being honest, we were about the poorest side in the tournament.

I shook my head in disbelief at that. Would the 6th or 7th best team get so outplayed by a 'top side'??????????

I've always said England will never win anything, however they are always good to make a few quid from by backing them to go out of whichever tournament they are in at the quarter or semi final stage (usually the former). The simple fact is they are just not good enough, although they obviously have delusions that they are, they can scrape past the likes of Ukraine, France and Sweden but put them up against a decent side and they've no answers and if Italy's finishing was up to scratch they would have been dispatched long before extra time (even Ukraine should have been three up on them at half time the other night). I was quietly hoping they would get past Italy last night just to see them get dismantled ruthlessly by Germany as they did two years ago. As it turns out they got exactly what they deserved, nothing.

are people really that shocked by us getting outplayed and knocked out in the quarter finals?
we all knew we had our weakest squad for a long time going into the tournament. Hodgeson got us organised and playing to our strengths which was basically defending well and trying to hit teams on the break.
we topped our group and got knocked out only on pennas, we never lost a game in 90 mins.
I think most of us would have settled for that before the competition started.

Concurring with Mr Klinger. Given the lack of preparation time, injuries and the chaotic end of the previous regime losing in the quarter finals on penalties was an achievement.

My only moan would be Rooney's complete failure to attempt to get to grips with Pirlo. Seeing such a good footballer allowed to stroll around while Rooney, who was told to pur pressure on him, was usually walking about ten yards away pissed me right off. He might well have controlled the game anyway but to just let him do it was unbelievable. At least Andy Carroll bumped into Pirlo a few times once he came on.

I keep hearing this "if the Italians' finishing was up to scratch" bullshit. It's no more valid than "if England's passing was up to scratch."
Next fallacy please.

As Lonnie Urquart might say in Mike Basset England manager...'It was warm out there...and that Pirlo was good..three cheers for Pirlo'.

Last night proved at major tournaments 4-4-2 is dead, we couldn't get near pirlo n I think an extra man in there would have helped the exhausted Parker n gerrard.

We have for the nth tournament in a row built our team around the attacking threat of Rooney and once again he has proved he is not a world class player. Against France we had flashes of pace and guille, against Sweden we scored three goals with an old fashioned English centre forward - almost Plan A and Plan B. With Rooney in we offered no threat.

When Andy Carroll came on the team seemed to make no attempt to play to his strengths. He was winning header after header (I don't think he lost a single one) and had them panicking more than once before they twigged there was never anyone there to pick up the scraps. The only time there was someone was in the 90+3rd minute when if Rooney's overhead bicycle kick had gone in England and Rooney would have been the dog's bollocks.
If Italy'd had a Carroll we'd have lost by quite a few. But they didn't have one. If we'd had an Iniesta we'd have given them a better game but we didn't have one. It's all part and parcel of a team's strengths.

Notice how a bit of balance has come in since people had a chance to sleep on the disappointment? England's defence did great last night, as they have done all tournament. The pass completion of pretty well the entire team was dreadful, as it has been all tournament...Gerrard was a bit subdued and no-one else in a white shirt got a grip on the game. Joe Hart's comment that England can't really look forward to the future with confidence is hard to argue with. A lot depends on whether this is Jack Wilshire's last long-term injury, though as Gerrard's just shown, one quality player can't carry an entire midfield.

I'd have been almost embarrassed if England had won that penalty shoot out - only 'almost' cause if we had got through I'd have been dreaming of somehow doing ok against Germany in the semis. In all honesty a Greece-style thrashing would have been on the cards and I'm happy not to have given the Stormtroopers (or the peculiar OddsOnPhil) that satisfaction.

I'm assuming that Mr Phil isn't English, he can't be. My money is on him being a jock.

I just can't understand why defenders who very rarely score a goal are in the first 5 to take a penalty!!!! confised sctatchinghead

Ashley Young....who is he????....if he's one of the best England have got there's no future!!!! confised

Rooney....how many times did he lose the ball or pass to the opposition in the games he played....if he'd have scored that overhead kick though he'd have been world class again....(like someone has already mentioned)....and the rest of his 'play' would have been forgotten!!!! confised

I said at half-time that if England managed to get through and played Germany the Germans would get at least 3....after extra-time I said Germany would get at least 6!!!! confised

But not to worry....England will be one of the favourites for the 2014 World Cup!!!!

Dosnt matter what position you play to take a pen. Anyone can score or miss. Messi couldn't do it v Chelsea and he bagged 70 odd last season

But Ashley Cole scored for Chelsea in the Champions League Final shoot out, so maybe he volunteered because he had the experience and confidence of scoring in a very similiar pressure environment

I know what you're saying but I just think it should be people who regularly score goals should go in the first 5!!!! :|

Ashley Cole looked petrified I thought....BTW....and as much as I detest the little shithouse I think he was by far England's best player in the Euros from what I seen!!!! :?

I can't believe I've just said that!!!!

Same with Terry. Off field They are awful but on it they do a fantastic job. The entire back 4 can hold there heads high for me
