I agree with Compo. The short sightedness of these people is baffling.

Makes you think what possesses these people to start a political party or become local councillors in the first place. I'd originally hoped it was for change, improvement and development of their town. Not the self-serving, ego trip most of them seem to be on!

The independent report on Pools is a lot of common sense...the only trouble being...common sense is not all that common with the council readership!

They're selectively reading. I.e. the only bit they're reading is that the ground transfers FOC. Not one of them mentioned the redevelopment part, or the fact that IOR are worth 5 mill a year in trade to the town.

Also no-one on there has noticed the bit about 100K to compensate for the lost revenue in rent, or put anotherway, five and a bit years rent up front. This effectively means that if IOR do go tits up (chortle chortle) then they're covered for the revenue for five years anyway.

I joined that a couple of years ago when they were moaning about summat else and I was going to join in but Mr Fetish was doing a better job than I could.

Insignificant as the Colonel says.

I don't understand why people are trying to reason with them, you can reason with a goat for all the good it'll do you, so don't bother.

With people with attitudes like the people on HTH board it is no wonder this town has stood still or gone backwards in recent years. No ambition or forsight.

100% concurrence with every sentiment and post on this thread, especially Snowy's.

The proposal is currently being mentioned on Sky Sports news rolling headlines banner thingy for League One, talking about the possibility of the council signing over the land to be decided at council meeting.

Good publicity.

ha!ha! In your face you half a dozen Luddites of HTH!!! Let's see what sort of publicity you can come up with (titters at the prospect of little black and white cheap leaflets what will get posted through a couple of dozen letterboxes in Rift House)

We spent millions on the tallships and IMO it was money well spent. the money that the town will recoup over the years from that weekend will never be known but could run into a small fortune and its the same for IOR / HUFC the good work on and off the pitch by our owners of pools is priceless.
like it or not the standing of H,angus for mayor gave the town worldwide media coverage funded by IOR / HUFC these people on the HTH do not represent the majority of towns folk there have there own little agenda,s.

they're a bunch of imbeciles crowing away in their own litle world that no noe apart from themselves ever visit. The problem is if we allow them to dictate the agenda. We should all bombard the Mail's letter page about how positive the ground development will be to the town. Hopefully they'll disappear up their own arses again....

Start by writing an email to here mail.news@northeast-press.co.uk

PS I hope they read this!!

Failing that we could offer them a bit of toe to toe! LOL

Correct. They are the people who WILL write to The Mail and try and prejudice people's minds with a huge distortion of the actual facts. The only way to counter this is to beat them at their own game and make sure that the correct message is put out there, but also to do it in the correct manner. The correct manner being as you say above, plus getting on to your local councillors and prospective local councillors, and not getting into petty arguments with them either on here or on their website.

Is there any way we can publicise details of any councillors/people with power who are trying to stop this happening?

Anybody can see this is going to be good for the town as a whole, and anyone who is trying to scupper it needs to be made known to the populace.

Is it possible to set up a website or something naming and shaming these individuals? Maybe if they knew that their luddite tendencies were going to be in the public domain they would think twice about it.

All above board and legal obviously.

Lets do it. Find out who the obstructive individuals are and get them on there.

I think we should wait till the vote is taken and then see who the Luddites are, I'm not prejudging anybody to be fair ... and to give anyone time to reconsider their views.

precisely what I've been saying John. They need to be outed - anonymity in this matter will not be accepted by the near 6000 people who bought season tickets for starters, never mind the all people whose jobs would be at risk if this deal didn't go through

Wont their argument be that theres no reason why the development cant go through without giving the ground away? Would that mean the only thing that could possibly not happen is the redevelopment of the rink end?

There's a reasonable chance that the council would like the £100k off Pools to give to Robinson's for their upfront costs plus there's also a reasonable chance that the council would want Pools to invest in the new leisure facilities on the site (Mill House Leisure Centre replacement), probably some kind of shared ownership and useage.

Does 'upfront costs' mean what I think it means?

Reading through the report it seemed to me that Gus Robinson Ltd were after a lumper to make the scheme attractive to them. And given that they were the only ones to even bother to return the tender docs that would also add some substance to the theory.

it's not uncommon for contractors to need an advance up front to assist cashflow but I am stunned that there is so much work going around that only Gus Robinson Limited tendered for the work confised

Aye, mobilisation payments and the like once the contract is awarded.

With regards the tendering it is a bit of a puzzle innit. I know that we've got to the stage of the "recession" where quite a few companies are now selective tendering, i.e. only quoting for work where they believe that they can make a reasonable no-risk return, but there are definitely still companies out there "buying" work with low pricing in order to keep their turnover going and with a few to trying to make a few quid with extras and claims once they're into contract.

Maybe there was something in the "secret" element of the tendering process that the council haven't revealed which said that you could only tender for the work if you had an office in Hartlepool and had personal friends involved with HBC?

I would like to think that having a Hartlepool office is key to the decision making but then, how many Hartlepool based companies have the credentials to deliver what is planned? Not a criticism, I honestly wouldn't know, Lorne Stewart (?) although they are now based on Wynyard and made my Dad redundant a few months back so they can fook right off
