Briefly

Router broke.

Got new one.

Belkin Router. Virgin Media internet thingy.

The new router is connected to computer in living room.

Two laptops, two tablets, Ipods, playstaions all connect no problem wireless.

Youngest sons laptop will only connect locally.

Tried all the on screen diagnosis things but nothing working.

His lap top has Windows vista basic.

Any ideas?

The laptop has Compac written on the front, but Hewlet Packard on the back.

The wifes lap top has Vista and that works fine.

Help.

Go to Control Panel>Network Connection, find your wireless adapter and right click, select Properties. Double click TCP/IP 4. Make sure that Obtain IP and Obtain DNS is selected to automatic. Click OK to save.

Try that.

Also delete any old wireless connections you may have saved in newtork connections.

tried that, Still only allows local access.

Tried to delete the old wireless connections but there isnt a button to delete them

Do you have any antivirus or firewall software on it? that could be blocking it.

Here is how you remove a wireless network:

Remove a wireless network via Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center >
Manage Wireless Networks in the left pane and right-click the one you want to
Remove.

Can you not download it on another device, put it on a usb then install it? You said 2 laptops are fine. Also you could just plug the laptop in using the ethernet cable whilst you do it.
