To be fair MacDonald was a legend. There's not many players scored 5 for England in a single game. Even fewer who were then dropped for the next game.

On the occasions that I have listened it has seemed obvious that Gates and Slaven (two of the ugliest footballers ever incidentally)are bosom buddies and treat Mcdonald as a bit of a tosser.
So the story in the above link does have a ring of truth.
