Poor Kenny. I'm too young to have seen him play but he made the best patties in Hartlepool and me Dad was in awe of him.

RIP Ken.

Very sad news. I was aware he was desperately ill. I knew Kenny and was very fortunate enough to see him play, one of his last games spring to mind away at Darlo. I can just see him in front of the away end soaring above the Darlo defence winning most of the headers. I am sure he will be soaring above us all and looking down again.
Rip Kenny and Thanks For The Memories

Well no one lives for ever and you have to make way for the new generations, but this is the one piece of Pools-related news I didn't want to hear.
RIP the legend that was Ken Johnson. I can see him now nonchalantly nodding the ball into the back of the celestial net. Remember THAT Jon Daly goal? Ken scored about fifty like that. I reckon two minutes applause is called for. clappp

Very sad, RIP.

RIP a true Poolie legend. My grandad knew him and always said he was the best he'd seen in a Pools shirt.

Hope he gets a minutes applause to celebrate his life and career with us on monday.

I was lucky enough to watch him play. He was an honest player who always gave of his best and an honest man off the pitch.
I can still hear the buzz that used to go round the ground when Kenny got the ball anywhere near the opposition's goal.
He scored some cracking headers for a man of his height and he was an outstanding player in an outstanding team.
His very first fish shop was at the corner of Temperance St and Lynn St, which I believe he bought with his testimonial money. There were 11000 of us turned up at his testimonial.
Most of all I was lucky enough to be a friend of his.
A true gentleman in every sense of the word.
Thanks Kenny.
Deepest sympathy to his family.
R.I.P mate.

My Grandad watched Pools from not long after the club was formed until the mid-seventies and rated Ken Johnson higher than any other player. RIP

Kenny Johnson - a gentleman who always had a smile on his face and had the respect of everyone.

I met Kenny a few times (some of which were in Fens bookies), he was always full of life and had a bit of craic. He wasn't bad at picking a horse either.

Rest in Peace Kenny...
