Not sure how Gateshead could ever be a football league club when you read things like that. 900 fans for a derby on a Boxing Day. It must be an awful place to watch football mind, they might get more when they move to a proper ground.

They'd get more if they got promoted. I dare say they'd arrange their fixtures too so that they didn't clash with Newcastle.

without a shadow of doubt. Potentially they could be a club with a big support, that is a huge catchment area

Why don't they have it though? They've got a pretty decent side together and still can't attract 1,000 to watch them. Is it the ground? Or is it just a case of everyone going to watch Newcastle?

I would say it is emphatically this reason.

Plus they appear to have a decent team now but its important to remember that as recently as 2008 they weren't even in the Conference North. Who are 9 out of 10 people in Gateshead more likely to support? The team in the premiership 5 mins from their home or the non-league team 5 mins from their home?

Like I say if they got promoted I'm fairly sure they'd arrange something to try and boost attendances.

They already have they at Home with barcodes away and vice versa that's when Sky/ESPN haven't moved the barcodes game(s) to a Sunday/Monday for TV. But if fixtures were to stay on original Saturday date they're never at home together/or even at home together on same weekend. apart from that there not really lot they can do, getting promoted may help, but with barcodes on doorstep it won't be easy.

They're doing well to even have a club playing at as high a level as they are. Pools have fans who have been going since the 50s and earlier. It's difficult to imagine Gateshead maintaining such a continuity of support given all the troubles and movces they've had over the years. The current club has only existed since 1976.

The proposed new stadium right in the centre of Gateshead will undoubtedly help them, and if that happens there is no reason why they shouldn't be able to finally (re?)establish themselves as a Football League club.

Conference neighbours with a better ground than us then.

Ours wold have been redeveloped by now if we had a council that gave a shite about the club. Their are plans in place for that.

Anyway, I love the Vic just the way it is. Especially with a familiar looking bald bloke in the dugout!

Don't worry my cranially challenged friend. Ernie Ord waved it at the other 91 Chairman and we got re-elected. Every year for yonks.
