The Manics version, in my opinion, is rather good! What would you rather they covered, "Sweet Child O' Mine" ??!!!! At least they picked a cracking song!

Quite agree Mr Elvis. I love the Manics so i'm biased and I can't wait till the 17th Dec to see them do it at the O2 in that there London.

The worst cover version for me is Morrisseys version of The Jam - That's Entertainment. Truely goddam awful from the great man.

If I knew how to add the Youtube stuff I would post Ronan Keatings sanitised version of the magnificent Fairy Tale of New York. Are their no depths that man and the hideous monsters he's spawed will plumb?

Proper car crash version. The New Order original was one of the songs of my early teens and one of my desert island songs

Cheers Groovy for the advice

I am surprised at the negative comments about the manic version of that The The song. They are both excellent, and I applaud the manics in making their version so different.

As for that George Michael attempt. What the bloody hell is that all about.

This profoundly shyte offering from the deeply evil Ben L'Oncle de Soul takes some beating. Terrible cover of a bad song that converts it into an anthem for people who are surprised to find that they are heterosexual.

'The Manics' cant even sing their own songs well, let alone anyone
elses. Their last attempt at a decent song was something to do with
motorcycles I think. Since then, they've been too hung up on their
own meloncholy, for me to care, no pun intended.

My beef is....why take a classic song and cover it....take a shite song and try to make it better if you want....but 'This Is The Day' cannot be bettered by anyone!!!! :coool:

Thanks United, but this thread is meant as a bit of fun surely? My post was tongue in cheek: been listening to Noel's album all week and it's full of proper 'Oasis' singalongs, the way it used to be before too much charlie then misplaced band democracy in songwriting watered things down. Pity this is the arse-end of 2011, not 1994, when we were all so much younger and eyebrows that join in the middle were the coolest things on the planet. Don't look back in anger, eh?

Why on earth was he not sent to prison for that ?

This has to be up there with the worst ever too.
The original had a bit of quirky novelty value but this has nothing to offer whatsoever, its just bloody awful

Why not?? All the Manics have done here is take a song that they obviously like and they have recorded their interpretation of the song, which by the look of the video it is a tribute to Ritchie..and very fitting it is aswell.

But surely human nature is to strive for perfection and to continue to evolve and to try and improve on old ideas. We invented the plane..but people didn't sit back and say "This cannot be bettered by anyone" no people stayed on the case and planes evolved into what we know today, but even now people are still trying to make the plane better.
