What problems are you experiencing setting up the wireless connection? Don't tell me it won't connect - I need detail!

I have to install it through the AOL disk ive been sent out and can get all the way to the last stage (9) where it even says it can pick up an Internet connection but the tick light on the router will not light up to allow access...

until uve actually seen this poxy installation disk and my computer I dont think there is anything anyone can do.

Not being very computer literate I checked out with PC World as to which wireless kit worked best with AOL. I was told that the one I got (wireless ASDL network starter kit) was the only one that worked on AOL. Its a DGB111G. What is yours?

I only got mine in March. The gadgy in the shop told me AOL causes problems with a wireless connection. Mine works ok after a dodgy start. Had to get a teckie in to help me (doh!)

This is getting more complicated than I ever would have imagined. Im still connecting at the minute using my modem. Screen goes black doesnt sound too promising tho.

You should only need the disc provided with the new kit, not an AOL disc. You also need to unplug your old modem 1st before installing the new one

 Don't worry, you're only bringing up a DOS window with a command prompt. There are no demons in their ready to eat you.

setting it up is nice and easy for net - as netgear have a very user friendly html page for configuration - that's why you need the gateway off that screen to enter into your browser to access - i dont know if it jumps there straight away when you install - shouldn't take more than a minute to get you online if you have all your usernames and know your encapsulation details.

getting a bit geeky here on a re-read - sorry :|

Thanks for the help but unless I get a British AOL technician round my house I give in.. its frustrating not being able to get it to work but as long as I can still connect the old fashioned I cant complain too much. Ive seen the Netgear equipment on ebay and its going for around £40/50 so a win-win situation really.

I got up to stage 4 when I came across this :?

Phase 4: Turn off the modem, router, and computer. Reboot the modem, router and computer, in that order. Test your direct Internet connection using Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. The AOL software is not used in this phase — you want to be able to connect to the Internet without using AOL.

To help you verify that you are using genuine Windows, Microsoft offers a quick and easy online process called validation.

Validation takes only a few moments, and enables Microsoft to create a match between your PC's hardware profile and your 25-character Product Key (located on the Certificate of Authenticity), which Microsoft stores and checks against future activation and validation attempts. We do this to ensure that your Product Key is not used by another person in a malicious manner, such as activating a counterfeit or non-genuine copy of Windows.

Well my computer is not validated and thats probably why it is tits up and havent even got Internet Explorer installed on it.
