I actually think this is stupid... Having more subs allows clubs to develop youth players surely...

Clubs voted on this, so this is clearly what the teams want.

Reduces amount paid out on match days to players, also possibly in bonuses as well. Probably a lot to do with the capping rate coming in next season, clubs thought it way of saving money.

I wander how many players low on the pecking order were named as substitutes but never made the pitch.
Hence wasting time and money.
