Decent game with Barnsley emerging victorious to the somewhat flattering tune of 3-0.

Certainly enough from the Pools team to suggest we should build comfortably on last season's offering with the new recruits looking good.

As I said 3-0 flattered Barnsley. We had one header cleared off the line and a few other decent chances that might have gone in on another day. First and second goal they scored should have easily been avoided.

Ultimately though, as Creosote has been saying for best part of 24 hours, the result means nothing.

lost of positives, Sweeney and Liddle both had a good match, Poole looks like the one to watch and Luscombe (even though he looks like he should be in a rugby scrum rather than on a football field) was impressive.

Raff of the match the linesman who went to flag the last goal as offside, threw it up in the air instead, then sheepishly picked it up and changed his mind

Not just me then who thought he'd raised his flag to signal offside. Luscombe certainly looked quite chunky but thought he was very skilful on the ball. That little run he went on just after he came on was excellent. Pity it didn't lead to a goal.

Enough positives in that game for me to come away happy.

Couldn't think of a bad thing to say about any of our players and Barnsley certainly have some very talented players.

clappp clappp agree entirely. barnsley are a decent mid table championship outfit and we did ok against them. thought the standout players were sweeney, nish and boyd ( ) first half, with poole, luscombe and larkin doing well in their cameos.

Agree, score flattered the Tykes, Sweens unlucky with that first half strike that hit the bar. Not too worried by what I saw, although Trophy has been replaced by John Smiths at the bar and now £2.50 a pint, Fosters lager (was it in last season?)

They've also put two extra press boxes at the back of the Niramax Stand sctatchinghead , can't tell whether that's cost seats though. New floodlights looked brighter

About 60 Barnsley fans made the journey I'd say.

The John Smiths was very nice.

I thought we looked a much tighter team than this time last year. Barnsley's defence were very good tonight and their top end converted the only 3 real chances they had. I know it's only a warm up for both teams but I'm very optimistic looking at what Mick brought on from the bench. Nobby had some good touches tonight and you can see his class even this early. James Poole is a big asset to our team and so is Nathan Luscombe. I would be looking to up my game if I was Andy Monhouse because Luscombe looks as though he will run further with the ball than Monhouse and is not frightened to take on the defence.

Darren Holden looks full of confidence and has a better throw in than Sam Collins. Larkin caused some problems for them and his speed still hurts defences from midfield, so a good one to bring off the bench. I still think Sweens will be one of the top scorers this season and Gary Liddle was man of the match for me.

I think Boydy will have a better season this year and Colin Nish will cause league 1 defences a few nightmares. Pity we didn't get a goal, cos we deserved at least one.

But heyho it's only a friendly. 1378 people wasn't too bad either.

I'm going to York and can't wait.

Well I thought we missed the bite of Paul Murray massively... I didn't think Sweeney or Liddle did enough to command the game but I was well impressed with the young players who came on and Luscombe.

On Flinders, he is a good keeper but was very very rusty tonight. We need to see an improvement in the next few games or Raffa should be given a chance....

Nish also needs to show more aggression in the air....

Agree with most people on here, can't read anything into pre season. Thought we flattered Barnsley and Flinders looked a bit ring rusty, why did he push away the ball rather than grab it, didn't look in the shape he came back in after his layoff, was wanting him up for all the corners!
Squad looks better, young lads fit in nicely. Browny & Murray missing tonight Hassan not in the squad. Wonder who'll play against Blyth, would like to see Luscombe on a full game to see what he's like, his cameo tonight shows hes a character. Holden a young bloody Rory Delap with them chuck ins. We've got a Squad & competition!
