She's just rang us on her new mobile phone from Keswick..cop this. She's been out in a forest, on a Nature Trail, and got back to the Outward Bound place at tea-time, had a game of Wheelchair Basketball with 9 other disabled kids, ate Meat and Potato pie and Rhubarb Crumble for tea, and is now at a Disco with her mates...

From Mr I

Great stuff Phil, hope she's having a wonderful time. Despite having all this free time I bet the house feels empty.

I've told my daughter she can go out into town with her mates. The day she turns 30!

Great stuff Phil. I'm working on a project in Social Services where disabled people can receive money rather than services provided by the local authority, so that they can spend it on what they want and need. This could be adapted vehicles, access to work, housing or anything they like as long as it's legal. It's all about empowering disabled people, giving them responsibility and the ability to make informed choices. If the pilot project is successful it will be run out across the country - currently it's limited to just 13 sites - it's called 'Individual Budgets'. Livvy sounds like a prime person for this in the the future. Sounds like you and your wife are quite rightly chuffed and a little apprehensive.

By the way I like your signature - I used to really love Caravan and saw them live plenty of times - great band.

Glad to hear she's having a whale of a time.... what it is to be a proud Dad, my little boy (2 next month) has "Daddy" as his favourite word and it sounds better than any music I'll ever hear..... Hope Livvy (and the others) keep making you proud!

With you as a Dad Phil she was bound to have a great spirit!

Brilliant that Livvy is having a great time, she is becoming a young woman now, and not just you and your wifes little girl anymore. But like all the Dads of girls have said before in this thread you will still want to look after her as your little girl.

There are not many things in life that are important, but our children are certainly one of, if not the most important things in our lives.

Sorry mate it's called growing up,your little girl is fast becoming a young lady and WILL stamp her mark on the big wide world and the fact she wants to do it her way is just brill.

As you may know I have two daughters and my little girl will be 18 in April and has just qualified as a nursery nurse and my eldest is at Uni on a nursing course. I just cannot get my head round how fast they have grown into a young ladies and my eldest has given me two lovely granddaughters who I just bloody worship.

We have had some heartache in the growing up process, lots of tears and most of all tons and tons of happy memories that nobody can take away.

Just get ready for her homecoming as she will have loads to tell you and the missus when she gets home but enjoy the peace and the choice of what telly you can watch while she is away.

The one thing I want most of all at the moment is to sing we are the champions to the POOLYMAD clan and can you imagine all those bedtime stories to the two little one's of how Danny and the boys did it for us. My three year old granddaughters party piece is singing "e i e i oh up the football league we go and we hate Darlo" (no they are not brainwashed) .

Aye, the reflected glory is what makes all those years worthwhile. Mine's almost 28 now but she's still my little girl and she was born with a disability that's made life a bit tearful at times, endless operations and wheelchairs and sticks and physio and all the other stuff you have to do.

This weekend she was with the festival lot for pre-season briefings and she's been given the Central Cash job at Wireless in Hyde Park in June. My little girl is responsible for about 1.5 million in takings over five days.

It gives you a head as big as a fifty shilling piss pot!!

That's grand, Elvis.
My cousin (also disabled..hearing problems) used to go on The Lakeland Outward Bound holidays when he was young and thought they were great too.
And you're right..everyone's different, whether 'disabled' or not, but schools nowadays just treat kids as as exam fodder, not as individuals

Tunstall have a "UNIT".....oh yes, we've been there alright. Segregation there is better than Darlo V Pools...Able Vs Disabled.

When I was at Tunstall they had us and Thornhill scholl seperate with a few from Thornhill coming over now and then. I thought that they had now joined the 2 schools together as the old Thornhill site is now thw art department (I think)

Good News Mr ECG

All I can say is that people need to realise that they are all kids after all maybe thay need help to do things and this help should be given.

I'm all for intergration of all Children mainstream it has benefits for BOTH sides and this should be an option for all but this must not be done as a cost cutting excercise specialist help must be available to all as and when necessary.

As someone working in Social Care may I just say a big Well Said If only politicians - local and national thought like that. clappp clappp clappp
