Because franchise MK Dons don't deserve it

1.They had 3 nicknames The Dons, The Wombles and the Crazy Gang (that was originally for the players who won the FA Cup but stuck with the team)

2.There average attendance for their first season in the top flight was 3,135

3. Their last game as Wimbledon FC was in 2004 a 1-0 victory over Derby

4. Due to the European ban on English Clubs they weren't able to compete in the European Cup Winners Cup in 1988/89

5. Wimbledon received a European ban themselves (along with Spurs) in 1994/95 for fielding weakened teams in the Intertoto Cup.

... but surely AFC Wimbledon are the real Wimbledon, I don't see how MK Dongs can claim any connection whatsoever.

I agree MK should not exist, Wimbledon are top I was being pedantic by adding AFC to the beginning.

Original thread said 5 things about Wimbledon because franchise MK don't deserve it, I hate them with a passion for even being in the league.

Oh ye of rose coloured glasses.

Wimbledon were fuck ing horrible dirty bastards.
They gave the likes of Dennis Wise to the world..
They kicked their way up the leagues and left a trail of broken legs behind them.
I shed no tears when they went bust and I'd take MK Dons every time before those twats from South London.

ps: For all you who insist on using the word; franchise is not an insult and its about time you got over it.

The MK fans now take the whole franchise thing in the same way that Leeds take on the whole dirty Leeds thing and make good sport out of it in a 'nobody likes us and we don't care' sort of way.

but at least they are/were a proper club. Those who advocate the existence of the franchise can't ever complain if it happens to their own club in the future

Where do you want to start? There are no end of clubs who took over others back in the late 1800's, its not a new thing but MK have a huge bandwagon that everyone seems to want to jump on and nail up their holier than thou colours.

I don't give a shite either way for MK Dons but thats a vast improvement on my feelings for Wimbledon FC.

yep but once a football club has been established (which they hadn't way back then) it is wrong to do it. There should be a minimum 25 year rule in this respect so it can't happen again

Any objections to MK have got NOTHING to do with feelings, good, bad or indifferent, towards Wimbledon FC. Does that really still need to be explained every single time the subject comes up?

I understand the point and to a large extent agree with it however going on about it after all these years is pointless. Maybe if I didn't dislike the original Wimbledon FC so much I would feel differently but as it is I can't get excited that they were stitched up. Besides, they were fooked and would have ceased to exist in any form had they not moved to MK.

but they haven't Mr I - they are alive and kicking and top of the Conference after years of playing non league catch up. Your argument has more holes in it than Eliza's bucket

Oh behave, they're no more the original Wimbledon than MK are. Wimbledon FC were bankrupt and very nearly dead and buried when they were moved to MK.

No argument with that at all but the new Wimbledon AFC might have the moral antecedence but not one that stands up in any legal framework. Thats my point.

MK Dons have the opposite claim. They are legally the same as Wimbledon FC but not by any emotive measure.

the point is the franchising of an existing club - the old club should have been allowed to die without being replaced using the carcass Wimbledon FC. Any replacement club should have had to go through what Newport, Wimbledon, Accrington and Aldershot have since done.
League status should in no way have simply been handed to a town like that on the pretence of it being the revived version of a dead club. It wasn't, and it still isn't

So if they have no connection to the old Wimbledon why ar they called MK Dons then?

their name has nothing to do with it - it's what they did that was so wrong. They simply should not exist and the league should have gone down to 91 clubs that year.
