...in a season when we've struggled to buy a goal at times that we stick a reserve side out tonight with the following players starting:

Bjornsson, Larkin, Yantorno, Boyd, Behan, Mackay.

I wonder who we could afford if we binned off the lot of them. confised

it does make you wonder. It also makes you wonder just how far down the pecking order Ice man and behan have gone.

Boyd and Bjornson actually offer something, if not a lot. The others offer nothing.

I'd love to know what you think Boyd offers and please don't come back with the age old bullshit of 'there's always a chance he'll grab you a goal' because two goals from open play in the last 14 months contradicts that. Collins, Hartley and Horwood have all scored as many or more during the same time and they're all defenders.

I agree with a lot of the stuff you post about the games Creosote but I'm stumped on this one.

What exactly does Boyd or Bjornsson offer that is significantly better to what Larkin offers?

Neither has the work rate of Larkin and neither closes down defenders as effectively as he does thus forcing them to punt the ball out or aimlessly upfield.

None of them have great scoring ability based on recent evidence. To claim Boyd or Bjornsson are significantly ahead of Larkin in this sense is, IMO, ridiculous.

Bjornsson has looked an effective starter if he's playing in defence but let's be honest he's not going to displace any of our current back four unless one of them can't play.

So, like I say , I'm stumped sctatchinghead

Just thought I would highlight that little bit for you. Just in case you continue to only read part of what is written. :laugh:

Bjornson does offer height, if needed, and has actually had a least one very good game, and has scored now and again.

Boydy, sadly looks finished, but has scored goals throughout his career.

Now for those that can read more than the headlines, I would release the lot of them.

Carry on doing to others what you accuse me of doing to Larkin. :laugh:

I agree with you in that none appear to be up to League 1 football I just don't get your claim that Boyd and Bjornsson offer a little whereas Larkin offers nothing.

Like the goalscoring you mention. Boyd has scored twice all season and one of them was from the penalty spot. As for Bjornsson scoring now and again the last time he scored for us was against Leeds on Boxing day 2009!

boyd scored goals for 1 and a half seasons for pools.

before and after that he has just scored in drips and drabs randomly.

I was there, Larkin RM Mackay LM Yantorno CM boyd and behan up top. Not more than 3 shots from the lot of them. :uhoh:

Mackay the best out of them beat his man with pace everytime and put some good balls in, would of played him up top second half.

Bobby Charlton is more likely to get a start for Pools than some of that lot. Whatever any of us think MW clearly doesn't rate them.

At a reserve estimate the following players maybe on the following wages per week:

Bjornsson = £1,000
Larkin = £1,000
Yantorno = £1,000
Boyd = £2,000
Behan = £1,000
Mackay = £500

Thats £6,500 enough for a good striker in this division, I cant wait till the summer when we can properly look for a player to bang the ball in the net.

If all the rumours are to be beleived (a big 'if' i know) then bjornnson is the highest paid player at the club and would be on a lot more than a grand.

There again, another reserve estimate of what the players might be on might be different from those figures, which would change the picture considerably. :wink:

Concurring with Ms. G.

Plus the fact that if (or hopefully when) that lot are no longer part of our squad we'll be extremely short of numbers in the forward department so would probably need to look to bring in at least two forwards to supplement James Brown and Richie Humphreys!

Thats what I was saying by reserved estimate. How much do you recon Pools would need to pay two forwards per week to join us. I think we should "do a Peterbrough" on one of these choices and go and buy Tubbs from Crawley Town (if they dont get promotion) or Magno Silva Vieira from fleetwood.

Crawley are minted, they wouldn't sell one of their best players for anything other than silly money.

Dunno owt about the guy from Fleetwood though, and your idea in principle is reasonable.

He's got an exotic name but he's played about 100 fourth division games and has a distinctly average goal return.

Can't see him cutting it in League One on that basis, the likes of Mclean, Boyd, and Mackail-Smith hadn't really had a pop at league football and they cost a fortune.

How about that Adam Rooney from Inverness caladonian, he bangs em in regular, only issue is he is a ginge :shock:

42 goals in 90 apps, good ratio and probably get him for a crate of irn bru!

Vieira looks a useful player at this level. Like you say his record in the 4th div isnt great but sometime a step back helps a player find his form and he may be more up to playing at a higher level now.
