I have got a leak in my cooling system somewhere, as the coolant level keeps dropping.

I can't get it looked at for a couple of weeks, and in the meantime I've got loads of driving to do.

Therefore I'm going to top it up, but I need some advice on which type to buy - there's a couple of different types in Halfords. According to the description, they both seem suitable and unsuitable at the same time. Something to do with 40% ratio which has baffled the bollocks off me.

Can anyone advise please?

The car is a 1997 mark 3 Golf 1.4 injection.

Make sure that you're in the RAC or similar.

I think they were supposed to have particular coolants, G11 or G12 or whatever and you put quite a lot in as well. If I was planning to drive far I'd get the coolant changed at Halfords or somewhere similar and buy some spare of the same one.

If you are in the AA/RAC stop at a sevices when you know a fair bit has leaked out and call them- they'll probably find the leak and might fix it.

How fast is the leak? If its not that fast topping up with H2O may suffice.. On the down side take a look inside the oil filler cap and see if you've got any emulsified oil around.. If you have this could be the source of your leak sadx
