I'm not sure I would change it. Strauss will like having Collingwood around for his all round game (it was only a few days ago that The Times were saying that catch might have been the one that won us the Ashes), Prior has had three bad knocks but I wouldn't say that constitutes 'not pulling their weight' as his work behind the stumps has been excellent as usual and before the series he has been one of the best wicket keeper batsmen in donkeys. Finn is the leading wicket taker in the whole series and we have bowled superbly as a unit all series. I think it'd be pretty unfair (and silly) to drop Finn just because the batsmen failed so badly in Perth.

At a push I would maybe bring in Morgan for Collingwood but I can't see it happening and don't think we need any knee jerk reactions over what happened at the weekend.

I agree with that, but:

Why did our bowlers bowl the short ball so often when quite clearly Johnson showed them what to do? That showed a total lack of professionalism for me.

Why did our top batsmen try to get out as soon as possible? Cook tried to run himself out firs ball off Johnson, like he shitting himself. Strauss then just lashed out like he was facing a missile. This on a pitch where Hussey had just got another century.

There is no need to panic, yet, but that was an appalling performance.

So we're out there for something like 6 weeks doing well in warm up games and the first two tests, then it happens...yes we have confirmation, that women turn everything to rat s***, they turn up out there to join the team and what happens....we play crap , get soundly turned over in 3 days.

Send them back home......... Yes it's all women's fault AGAIN

The English batsman showed no professionalism and intelligence in that test. If I was an English batsman I wouldnt have listened to or watched anyone other than Hussey he has grew up on that ground and knows it better than anyone, what did he say "all you have to do is stay in for 20-30 minutes it can be tricky in this time but then the pitch and bounce come to you. You have to get the bowlers bowling to areas you want and this will come in time as they get fustrated with the pitch".

He knocks on over 100 and we all look like idiots.

Yes exactly he's grew up and played hundreds of innings on the ground. He's accustomed to batting at Perth to our batsman the conditions are pretty alien. 'No professionalism or intelligence' is way over the top, they got out cheaply a couple of times that's all. In the last Ashes we played shockingly at Leeds to bounce back and win the series at the Oval, no reason why we can't do that again. Given two of the first three tests of the series were at Brisbane and Perth where England a have traditionally poor record we'd have taken 1-1 at this stage.

A little disappointed to waste a review on Phil Hughes. They won't be happy to only take six an over off Johnson either. A lead of 60 is the minimum I would have expected but I'll take it. Must do better on day two.

Oi, Aussie! We can see you sneaking out... in your thousands

I fell asleep about half 4, that's absolutely class how many people had gone.

Mitchell Johnson back to what he does best, the four byes he gave away early on was almost as bad as the ball Harmy bowled 4 years ago in Brisbane. He really does struggle when the conditions are against him.

I'm already looking forward to Ricky Ponting's resignation interview :coool:

Looks like this might be the final nail in Ponting's coffin.

Another low score and the rest of them didn't do much better. 98 all out in front of a record 91000 crowd. England then go and make a mockery of their score.

I can't see him getting up from this.

Ricky Ponting is a Grade A twat. Fact.

Though '3 times Ashes losing captain Ricky Ponting' has a nice sound to it.

I'd probably still play him in Sydney if they win this match, which they should now they have established such a strong position.

The only possible change I would make is drop him and bring Finn back or perhaps give Shahzad a game.

And replace him with who? Morgan?

He's unconvincing so far in test cricket and I would back an established cricketer with a test 200 in in Oz already against someone who has played a handful of tests.

Another failure by Collingwood

We're ripping the Aussies a new arsehole and all you can do is bang on about Collingwood.

We have a real opportunity to destroy the Aussie bowlers in today's play. It will be good to see Swanny and Bres batter them about a bit. Hopefully we can bat for close to half a day and establish a lead of around 500. With the pressure on the Aussies they will probably crumble all out for about 250.

Full praise to the management team again bringing Bresnan in. It was a bold move taking the leading wicket taker out of the side but Bresnan has taken the wickets of 4 of the Aussie top 5 at some point during the Test and gone for less than two an over throughout. Compare that decision to the Aussies bringing in the likes of Hughes, Smith, Doherty and Bollinger who has all done fck all.

Looking like three more wickets needed, shouldn't even need to stay up that late to see us retain the urn. rolf

No you're right I'd much rather watch it on TV.

But as that's not an option Aggers, Boycott and the crew make a very fine alternative.

I watch it on TV and then listen to the BBC Podcast with Boycott when I get up. I prefer the channel 9 coverage though that's available as you don't have to listen to Beefy...

I'm sure in one of the earlier tests I spotted a Hartlepool England flag in the ground.

I honestly don't get all the hatred of Ponting.

Three times he's lost the Ashes (chortle) but every single time he couldn't have been more gracious in defeat. He never offers excuses or fails to give the opposition credit, his interview wit Athers this morning again was excellent given the extreme pressure he's under, and with the England support singing 'you're getting sacked in the morning' in the background. OK he has the odd thing to say on the field and he plays the game hard but he's captain of Australia would you expect him to be any different. He's also been a genuinely World class player for a long time, one of the very best around.

Is it because he looks a little bit like George W Bush? sctatchinghead
